A Neo-Chopin Ballade in a minute

Featured Replies

It's just a joke piece..but it's quite fun!

It's just taking a light approach to heavy, emotionally sinking Romantic music.

Which I love.

I just like to poke fun at it every now and again...

sounds more Beethoven to me, i don't get the joke.

me neither...

Semi-Beethoven-ish, that's all. I don't get the joke, but I think the Title is a joke (ja... ja).

The piece is good in some way, though Beethoven and/or Chopin had his style and you have your own.

Taking the above as null, I'd say this is a 8/10 work (No-SchubertTrout graduating scale).

Good job, but think again about the title.

I think you need to extend it more... it shouldn't be a joke piece and it doesn't have to be. I like it. In Nico's words: how about you spend more than 20 minutes on a piece of music. It might be pretty good.

He is exactly right. You need to develop it more and you have a fairly decent ballade.

I agree with most of what's been said here. I think it's a good piece, but as others have said, you need to rethink the title. It does honestly sound like a Beethoven piece more than a Chopin piece, and the Chopin Ballades are much much longer and more developed to begin with. The piece itself could probably stand as it is with a different title.

I think I get the joke...the beginning may be mocking the intro to Chopin's Ballade in G minor, with the octaves. But this is the only thing I can catch that could possibly be mocking the Ballade. I don't see how you can mock that Ballade in just one minute, there is just too much information in that piece. The rest of this short piece sounds very classical to me, rather than neo-romantic.

fine piece, i think that it works very well as it is. i like miniatures.
