Time Symphony Op.10 Complete

I've never seen you post outside your own works, this is a problem because people on YC tend to review pieces from people they know and respect. So I'd suggest to get a bit more social and go and participate in the Yc community.

OK... I didn't participated in the forum... because I'm a little shy and for the ones that need review, I'm not so capable ...with my poor English... and there are plenty of school teachers to do that :P.... If I was impressed by someone I left a message...a short one (Nico's symphony) to show my respect...

I didn't knew that "people on YC tend to review pieces from people they know and respect"... I thought that everyone here is respected :) if not known...

I can't start now replying messages everywhere in the forums, because I'm not like that... I barely post my works, in order to learn something from your reviews... If I can't get your respect :) because I'm not that "talkative" in the forums) I will try to get over it... :( C'est la vie...

My computer is REALLY slow at downloading mp3s, especially big ones that you probably have, and the midi is just too horrible to listen to for such a beautiful song... So could you post up the Finale files for all of them, if possible? I LOVED the first movement, and I want to hear the other two... Please and thank you :o

About the respect I said that in general. Everyone has my respect untill they do something horrendous to lose it and it usually has to be pretty bad.

Thanks a lot for your time to listen to my piece! :P

I've just uploaded the mus. files... BUT remember, that they are for 2007 version of Finale... And I can't transcribe the entire score for Finale 2006.. Sorry... :(

One more thing... The symphony needs to be revised... It is not a "ready-for-be-played-by-a-real-orchestra" piece... Especially the 1st movement where I will keep in mind what Qccowboy advised me! (and I want to thank him for that :) )

Again.. Thanks for your time, ajamesu!

I hope I will never do "something horrendous" :( - I'm not like that... :P

Please... I'm really that bad because I don't participate in the forums? :D Is the piece really that boring and tiresome? :o

No, it's not. It's kind of gorgeous, actually. But you'll find people are much more inclined to review your music if you participate in the forums. We don't bite. ;)

EDIT: I see someone else already mentioned this.. The point still stands, though!

OK... I've just started my "activityness" :D ... I hope that I will make some friends ! :)

Hey I'm sorry I didn't have time to comment on your piece yet but I will as soon as I get home because I'm on the library's computer so I'll just edit on my comments to this post, okay?

EDIT:

Movement II

There are some orchestration issues, but I'm afraid to point them out because I'm not sure if I'm correct because I'm not really experienced in orchestration, so I'll have some of the more experienced forum members point them out, okay? =) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that you're supposed to have either two or four horns most of the time, and it shouldn't be treated as a bass instrument even though it's range goes down that low, so give it to a trombone or something; speaking of which, you could've made more use of the trumpets and especially trombones, they could've helped with keeping the pulse going, maybe with the bassoons in the heavier parts?

Musically, I thought it was absolutely BRILLIANT, I loved it a whole lot! It just strikes me as "WOW," there are no words to describe it. I can't really go into detail becaused I liked everything about it =)

Movement III

If I thought the other two movements were impressive, WOW. This is my favorite one. Too good for words. I'm just speechless. WOW.

Thanks for your time to listen my pieces! Indeed I have some problems of orchestration :P , but the scores for the symphony represent only a sketch! If it would be played by an orchestra, be sure that I would reorchestrate the entire symphony!:D

I really hope that you're not the only one that enjoyed it! :P But at least I've found a listener for my piece!

Thank you !

sebastian,

First of all, I am sorry to disappoint you, I was just too busy to listen and comment your piece at the time you asked me to do so. Forgive me for writing this review without reading the previous posters, I might repeat what they have already said. While listening your piece I saw in your piece your creative energy and your penchant to compose. The size of the orchestra seems not enough for you that you want to employ additional instruments. Which is good. And you seem to wonder around different tonalities all the time. Which is not good. Sure there are no rules. In fact, I am probably the only one in this forum that know no boundaries in music. Yet, there has to be some hidden rules. I see that you started with triadic harmonies and moved through some atonal areas and into some other scales, I hear whole tone and now Phrygian mode.. and I don't know what next. The thing is, there is no problem with using those scales. The problem is that they sound as if stitched together with no apparent reason. But I liked the dreamy nature of the piece. It was like a soundtrack for a fairy tale. It seems like you were experimenting with form and different scales and materials. I appreciate that. But still it was not perfectly executed. Which is why people begin composing on small scale works, to grasp the importance of harmony, form, development etc. before writing big works where they face all those problems plus orchestration.

Don't get me wrong. This is a great achievement. To write a such symphony. I myself don't feel ready to undertake the task of writing a full scale symphony. Anyway, I strongly encourage you to keep composing. My comments are only for your own good and don't mean that you are on the wrong track.

Thank you so much for leaving your comment! I really really appreciate it!

I agree with you in all aspects! Yes... I did experimented different scales and materials! :w00t: I will take your advices very seriously and apply them as good as possible in my future compositions!

I also decided to compose more little pieces, and not such large compositions, although it helped me to know the orchestra!

About the different "moods" or "episodes" in the 3rd movement... I tried to create a "journey" and with this occasion to explore!

Sometimes I feel the need to change the atmosphere from atonal dissonance to simple triads (or elliptic chords formed by different intervals)... I can't explain myself why... Maybe this will change in the future...

That phrygian mode is in fact the Romanian influence... :D

The tonalities in the 3rd movement are in a way random, although I had 2 main ones: A major and Eb major...

I needed randomness in this piece, because of its purpose to "draw" a world that is both familiar and unknown... (seen in 2 different ways)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICES! I appreciate them!

Thanks for listening! I will try to post the score, but the mus. file is really HUGE, and I still couldn't find a reasonable program to create PDFs...

Again thank you! :)

I recommend Cutepdf for making pdfs from finale, it's free and easy to use. Google it!

I haven't had time to listen to this work yet, but having listened to Supernova my expectations are high :D I shall try and listen and comment as soon as I get chance

Since i've only listened a little bit and i know you're but 18, so i'm just sayikng that don't take all this criticism too seriously...listen with half and ear, but leave the other half up to yourself...i doubt any great composer would have been as great as they were had they listened to all criticism that was written about it...most criticism was just vile...but you're extremely talented and the only way to shine is to work, work, work and clearly you are doing it...so congratulations for this work!

Thank you so much for what you've said... :happytears: We all, as composers and musicians need encouragements from time to time... But sometimes I also need a "slap in the face" :P to be reminded that I am not an accomplished composer, and that always is room for better, and only through hard work and study we can tend to be perfect!

Again, thank you for your time listening and leaving the comment! !

Well, i have to agree with you. I know for a fact that all good work that i've done was as a result of a major reality-check! But it's all good :), but keep working for cryssakes!!!

Well I'm no expert but some of the parts are REALLY great and overwhelming! I love it, great job!

Thanks a lot! I'm no expert either! :P

Again, thanks for listening!

Wow! I liked the 3rd movement, who did you get to perform this?

And another thing, How did you organize a conductor's score? I always run into trouble when composing for multiple instruments

and by the way what instruments did you use

Hello! Thanks for listening! I really appreciate it!

The piece is not performed by an actual orchestra; I used Finale (2007) and some auxiliary programs in order to render the final product! :P

You can download the mus. file and you'll see that it is not ready for a real performance with an orchestra... A lot of things must be put on paper in order to make this piece "playable and readable" for an orchestra/conductor... You'll see the instruments there! ;)

Thanks again for your time listening to it!

which finale version did you purchase?
