Is there a way to find members in your area?

Featured Replies

Can you search for "New York City" or "London" and find all the YC members who have identified themselves as living there? Or perhaps search "Portugal" or "France" or something equally broad?

Go to Member List, then Advanced search.

Then you can fill out the location field.

That's as good as you can do with what we have here.

Looking to do a spot of stalking? ;)

If you do an advanced memberlist search, there is an option to specify location.

EDIT: Daniel got there first.

Ooh, wouldn't it be nice as part of the new Social Networking feature of YC to have a geography page? A big world map with a dot where every member lives, and you can zoom in on the dots and click them to go to the user's profile??

It's like a stalker's paradise!

And probably completely impossible.

Actually, a more feasible thing would be to create a Wiki page that lists every state and whatever non-USA countries our members hail from. Then each member goes to that page and adds his or her name and city of residence to the list under the proper state/country heading.

I was thinking something like the map idea as well but I didn't see how to work it. I got as far as thinking that someone could post up a large image file of a map of the world and users could open it in the photo-editing program of their choice, put a number (or dot, ect.) ontop of where ever they're from and below it (or to the side) could be a list of all the users who have "pinned" themselves on the map and their location or their number, if numbers are used.
