A new band piece

Featured Replies

I just finished this piece. It's written for band. I don't have a title as of yet for it. But tell me what you think. I think you'll find it interesting.

Hey!

This was really neat; I enjoyed it. I think your orchestration (or bandination, in this case, I suppose :o) was very clean and professional; it showed knowledge of the ensemble and clear direction.

The rhythm was also very cute; that's what I liked so much about it. Now on to negatives...

I don't think this is a successful concert band piece overall. The main reason for this is that it sounds EXACTLY like a town theme for a game. It lacks a certain level of depth and development which would have established it as a more serious work in my mind. As it stands, it would make excellent game music but I can't see it standing its ground as well in a concert setting.

Either way, you've created a memorable and catchy little theme here and I'm glad you shared the effort with us.

Keep it up! ;)

Wow i really like it! This is my favorite of yours!

And i'll agree with Marius, excelent game music, but i'm not sure how it'd go too good in a concert setting.

You're right - I did find it interesting!

In fact I think it has quite a garden-type feel to it, like a child playing with his toy soldiers in the backyard. And in the kind of gloomy section, the fighting stops because the child's tortoise crosses the battlefield. The music gets more majestic as gradually the tortoise becomes a symbol of unity for both armies and they join hands and climb on the tortoise and march into the sunset. Simply wonderful! But then of course, the child laughs because he knows world peace can never be achieved so the armies start battling again.

I enjoyed this thoroughly!

Thankyou for all the comments everybody.

Marius, can you be more specific? I thought towards the end where it repeats the main theme could be alittle more variated, but I don't exactly know what you mean.

Could you please elaborate.

I don't mean just the end, I mean the whole thing lacks depth. It's a lot of the same thing over and over again and it doesn't really have a good sense of beginning and end; it sort of starts and ends in the same place. The whole way the piece is structured just makes it feel more like something out of the soundtrack for Golden Sun than a concert band piece, that's all. Which isn't a bad thing; I loved that game's music. :)
