Allegro for Guitar

This is the first piece I've worked on since I stopped composing and buried myself in some textbooks.

I'm planning for it to be in binary form; I have the A section and the beginnings of a B section.

Does what i have of the B section so far look good? Does what i have of the B section work? Is it developable?

Yay, At last you get your head out of the textbooks!:)

This is a very pleasent piece but I did find it got quite monotonous with all those quavers. You do introduce a nice rhythm in bars 5-6. Maybe some more rhythmic variation?

The B section is quite nice but, don't ask me why, I don't think its right for the piece. It fits in the sense that it has quite a similar feel to the first part but with a more simplistic upper part. However, I think you need something a little bit different in section B. Not sure whether anyone will agree with me though.

Probably, but here's my two cents about this piece

It has a distinct Baroque feel to it. Although to be completely honest I found it rather monotonous. You could stand to add a bit of flavor here and there, Change the B section up a bit, the idea is alright, but the same note repeated 4 times can get rather boring. If I were you, I'd dump the B section entirely, it's quite boring IMO. Although what you have already is quite good, just add a little salt and pepper so to speak

Yes, don't do Pachebel :laugh: Pachebel has been copied too many times. Try something new, maybe something of your own? If I were you, I'd take it up a Major third, not an octave, the sound you have is nice and major, I would stick with the major idea :)

Well some of Sor's music has jumps as big as from Emajor down all the way to Am. So IMO I don't think any jump is too big, just so long as you can pull it off correctly :laugh:

Contrpunctal pieces are usually very interesting when done well, I say go for it!

Yeah, I'll go with E major as I already had a B(V) to set up the Em.

I'll have a try at some form of two voice fugue when I get home from school tomorrow.

The bass line seems a little monotonous... (did i get my spelling right?:P) Try varying the bass line rhythm a bit instead of just letting it appear at strong beats.

My 2 cents. :)

I've now uploaded a new file with a new B section and a few small amendations to the A section. And a midi, for anyone that's interested.

Yes, change the guitar to strings ensemble 1, and try it, quite a different texture and quality. ;)

Anyway, well done on getting a different mood, but something sounds wierd, I can't quite put my finger on it. The top part is lovely, I just don't think the bassline fits very well, you could just change it a bit?

Thanks Michalis, I'll have another look at my bassline and check for any bad accidentals or mis-notations, i may have out a wrong bassnote somewhere and created a dissonance.

Made some more (minor) changes and I've managed to get a midi uploaded.

I've now decided to stop dicking around trying to get finale to do what i want it to do and I'm just gonna press on and try and get this finished.

Listened to your piece. I found it had a nice melody that went somewhere, and the bassline suits it. However, the rythm could really (in my opinion) do with some variation and perhaps the bassline could have more dialogue with the melody? I'm not much of a composer, so I don't really know...
