My first forray into Jazz

No idea how long this took to compose, I've been playing with the progression Imaj7 - IIm7 - Imaj7 - IVmaj7 for quite some time, came up with the melody last night and the solo was improvised.

As far as the solo went I played it incredibly safe, never stepping out of C major and mainly keeping to the arpeggio of whatever chord I was playing over at the time.

At the moment it's called 'Jazzness' for lack of a better name, any suggestions of names will be appreciated.

I like it, great first try at jazz.

You did play it extremely safe with the solo, which made it pretty monotonous, but there were some nice moments in the middle.

A nice relaxing tune, but I would have liked to see a bit more "adventure":P

However, if it's your first try, I can forgive you:P.

Thanks Mich, I didn't want to try and do anything I don't entirely understand, and so stuck with what I know. This is hopefully the start of something new for me so expect to see some more jazz type stuff from me sometime :unsure:

Really cool Mark, simple, yet cool (I know I basically just said that)...Incidently what did you use for this...Were the instruments samples...Seriously it sounded really good! I like this kinda jazz, though usually it would be one of my least favorite genres...:unsure:

It is cool...very subdued and polite. Not bad things.

The progression is nice - perhaps a contrasting section would help balance the tune better. The melody works well - but, again, would benefit from some sort of counter line or harmony.

Nice job for a first attempt - you show some serious potential!

Really smooooooooth piece, I loved it, flows great. Only thing that troubled me is the ending, you should let the drums make a final hit along with the other instruments, otherwise it sounds a tiny bit abrupt.

I liked it quite a bit. I would say Jazz is your style.

A few things though.

The rhythms get boring and the ending is very sudden.

The drums were just one free loop i found, hence the boringness :whistling: and both guitars I recorded myself.

Thanks for the advice, perhaps when I can solo over a few more chords (III and V and VI for example :horrified: I might add another section, with a different rhythm or something, and I agree about a countermelody, something to fill in the big gaps in the melody.

Actually, what could work is if you hold out the last guitar note longer, and add a TINY rit (in the guitar part, let the drums do what they want). at the end, you could pull it off with out the drums.

Mark, not bad. It sounded pretty good. I wouldn't have minded hearing the melody get walked out more though.

What soundfonts did you use? They sounded really good.

No soundfonts, a drum loop and recorded guitar :D

I was thinking of doing something like that, but I only had one drum loop, and I'm not too familier with my sequencer, perhaps when I've used it a bit more things like that will be more possible.

Wow have to say im impressed. I personaly think Jazz is... lets say im not a fan but, taking that into account I can say this is definately the best Jazz song i've heard in my time (yes its the truth... ive only heard 1 other Jazz song) :glare:

True - I don't understand why people are so often close-minded and, to be honest, ignorant enough to dismiss an entrie genre without putting in the effort to learn anything about it.

I like the way you have 'found' this smooth laid back feeling. I know that this was not to be something big, but I still have comment on a bit more variety specially in your harmony, which is decent by the way :sleeping:.

And to this small discussion; deathcheese why even bother comment when you have no whatsoever knowledge about jazz?
