Dance based RPG Battle theme

Featured Replies

Here is a little something I threw together in a matter of 3 hours for the now PER project.

It's meant to be a battle theme for a modern - sci-fi themed RPG. I wanted to make something fast paced yet not so gloomy. It's starts off with a interesting intro to rev you up for the battle, then goes into a fanfare sound, followed by a section of concentration, then something that sounds like you're winning.

It was made using FL Studio 7. Hope you enjoy!

PS It's in MP3 mode, dunno if that's ok... first composition post...

Frickin awesome techno, dude!

Not much else to say, although you might want to iron out a few parts. Specifically the stuff right before it loops.

Nice track, although maybe a bit too well, happy, for the lack of a better word, for a battle theme.

I'm not a big fan of the bassline aswell, maybe consider dropping it out in some more places, gives it more impact when it comes back in.

I really enjoyed this piece! I liked your harmonic progressions. It is indeed very dance like.

Nothing much else to say, really.

Good job!

Thank you all for your words! I hope to brush up on some skills and be able to accually compose for a video game.

Pretty nice, certainly sounds battle-themeish.

Can you send me the .flp file so I can look at your methods? I'm a fellow FL user, heheh.

I'm sure the flp file would be useless without all the sounds I use installed... Maybe I can make a midi for you?

Did you download plugins or just add more wav samples for your instruments?

Hey, cool, however, I do not see this as a battle theme. As someone else said, it is too happy. It might work better if somehow it was written in minor maybe the relative minor of the key you have it in now. Anyways, if you leave it the same as it is now I can see it working much better as the title page of a game or the conclusion segment of an RPG.

I used a combination of personal samples, soundfonts, and VSTs, either free or one's I had bought...

A battle theme in major can add tension.

here's the midi:

Thanks, I'll try and check it out tomorrow.

Well, it has this slight battle-theme feel at some places, but some stuff are just too "happy" sounding to me. Also, I feel that you need to bring up the tempo a bit because I find it a bit slow for it to give me that drive you usually get from battle music, and I'd say it needs more of those fast bursts of notes you usually find in battle music (but this would probably be solved with the raise of tempo, but adding some more wouldn't hurt).

It's not bad, but IMO not battle music. It could sound like some area music if you get what I mean, but then again it doesn't quite sound like that at some places. It's somehow inbetween a battle theme and an area theme.

Well, if you can help me out by pointing out which parts are too happy, I'll be able to get an update going... I've tried to work out some of the parts, but I need help...

Please?

Wow! :o It sounds cool! I dunno if it fits in battle scene though.. :) As it was written earlier, it's very cheerful :) Even Dreamy at the end. :D

Not a battle theme indeed. I agree that the bass line made it sound jumpy..

0.14~0.40 made the piece sounded like it should be played at a techno club, not at a battle arena like you mentioned... and at 0.55 the dance starts again... 1.12 was fitting for a boss theme IMO, but the dance starts again at 1.24.. It's a good idea writing a dance theme as a boss battle music, but this piece will not sound to fitting in a scene like this. 2.05 is good. I agree with green_minstrey.. It sounded dreamy at the end.. I would enjoy listening this piece in real life more than in game..

BTW I see you're pretty good at FL studio. I'm gonna get an old copy from my friend soon.. maybe I can ask you if I have any problems with it .

EDIT: I already have one.. Is it possible to change the tempo in the middle of a piece? Like if I would like to make a ritard, is it possible? Not wanting to go off topic here, so you can PM me if you wish..

Cheers...

FL... I think I might have to give in and buy it one of these days. Currently using Sonar. Sigh.

Does sound like video game music, (mostly because of your wicked sound founts... liked the VST stuff you used). Ummmm... but yeah, one more vote against battle theme. Sorry mate, but totally can see it in a RPG regardless.

What is the PER project??

  • Author

PER is the project I started to create a complete RPG OST.

That's awesome. But what the heck does PER stand for?

  • Author

PER = Project Electric RPG

Nice!! I wish I could make such music! Reminds me of Yasuhisa Watanabe.

  • Author

Well, I can see I've pretty much failed the goal of this being a battle theme, so I'll scratch this and try again!

It's electronic music eh? well, pretty cool.
