"Holding" notes in Finale 2006

Segment2__The_Hunt.MUSHey need a little help with finale 2006. Wondering how I can get the "hold" note thingy (i know its scetchy, but i cant remember the name and i have a screenshot)

or having chords with different note types. For example

Um , If you use the second layer, you can do that, but just having it all one layer, I'm not sure if I can even do that with '02.

Finale 2006 (and back until 2004 at least) has 4 layers that you can use to place notes, each one appears colour-coded when you input notes on the screen. To switch the active layer, take a look at the following screenshot. Once you get it, play around with it a bit to get used to the idea, it's basically like being able to write 4 completely different things in one measure.

It's true. The layer tool is the only way to do what you're proposing. It's that way in 2005 and I can't imagine it's that much different in 2006.
