Hi guys!

I've got some new incidental work to share with you all; these are some pieces from a new recent project of mine.

Just to give you an idea, it's a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game set in a sci-fi universe and is set to go Beta this July. I'll keep you guys updated on the game's progress and keep posting more pieces from the soundtrack in here as I write them.

For now, here are some of them:

Space 1 (ambience for outer space; mellow and neutral)

Space 2 (ambience for outer space; darker, meant for more hostile space)

Tense (just some music for tense scenes)

Game Room (theme for the screen where you set up the server you're playing on and who you're playing with)

Saturn (background music for the planet Saturn)

Space Battle/Trailer (this was originally written as battle music, but it may end up being used as music for the opening credits or some other cutscene instead since it's so epic)

Please enjoy and leave me your comments! :) More will be posted as they're written.

Epic and incidental.

Epic and incidental.

What is so surprising about that?

The space ones were very atmospheric. I loved the little tinkly bits in the background of the first one, are they wind chimes?

The tense one is pretty unusual, I quite like it. Seems very 'spaceship-y' at the beginning and then kind of goes 'drum'n'bass-y' :)

Nice powerchords in the Tense one. What do you use for your guitar sounds?

If you ever need some guitar recorded, don't hesitate to ask.:P

Saturn is lovely, very beautiful.:) However if it is to be looped, it may be a bit too short... Could get quite boring...

Awesome percussion in the battle one, no real criticism.

Sounds like this will be a great game, I wouldn't mind a place in the beta...;)

Great work there, Marius. I'm loving the Space Battle the most - although, I like all of them! I like the atmospheric sounds and the sort of mysterious spacey mood you set - perfect for a space game, right?

I'll definitely be downloading this beta. Is it a whole new game, or will we need other software to run it?

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for your comments so far! :)

To address the questions, yes, the tinkly bits are windchimes, with some slight digital alteration to give a more sci-fi feel. The guitar sounds I used came from the EWQL Colossus library, though I would be very interested in taking you up on that offer of live recording for future pieces. Bob, you bring up a good point about the Saturn track, and if it does end up looping, I think I'll probably extend it to about double its current length. The reason it's so short right now is that I'm still not sure whether it'll be the actual background music for the planet or just a sort of introduction to it...I'll have to ask.

About the game itself, as far as I know it'll be a fully open beta, so anyone can get in on it; neat deal. As for the software itself, it'll just be the game client itself that you need to download - no other seperate software necessary.

What is so surprising about that?

Nothing.

I added this short little cue today; it's for a dramatic discovery in the game. *Shrugs*

Dramatic Discovery - eSnips, share anything

Also this one, which is a similar cue for an even BIGGER discovery.

Legendary Discovery - eSnips, share anything

though I would be very interested in taking you up on that offer of live recording for future pieces.

I'd love to!:D

These new pieces are awesome aswell.:D

Marius,

good to see ya again pal. Also glad that you working on a project, because I always look forward to your pieces. well, here come my comments. I like the first one, the one with the piano. Saturn was really emotional, but rather short, still good though. The battle scene was great, it reminded me of one of my favorite games, Metal Gear Solid.

Man, all your stuff sounds pretty realistic, and really well developed. You must show me the ways of the force. haha .

See ya later

Thanks, cain :D good to hear from you too!

I'm glad you enjoyed the pieces. Like I said above, depending on its final placement, the Saturn track may end up extended, so stay tuned! :D

Marius,

I'm listening right now, all of the tracks, and these are some fine compositions.

I don't have exactly the time to post comments on each and every track, sadly at the moment, but probably will do so later on.

For now, I just want to say that I enjoyed the fact that almost all the tracks are loopable. The Saturn one, felt kind of empty and not mystirious, but actually ,exactly because it's empty it can simply loop for ever... (fragmented could be a better word).

On the battle tracks, which seemed like you took care the most  had a bit of the machinegun effect in the percussion sadly... Gold doesn't have a solution to that, unless you are using K2 scripts. Gold xp pro does though, so if you have it find Round Robin arituclations to use...

Tense had a very nice loop of percussion in the begining which I enjoyed thoroughly!

The two added tracks in the end, are very enjoyable as well, and very well worked! Incidental music all the way (meaning they are short and cut right to the point! Somehting I always find hard to do, personally).

Game room is very very nice and very very succesful for where it is intended!

Generally, what I get a feeling for, is that you spend a tad less time on most tracks that you would like. For example teh game room I'm listening now, is basically 2-3 loops, and some strings, most of the time. The chords are repeated... Maybe something richer on the orchestration could work better? (but not on the game room actually, since this is the menu track, right?)

Either way I'm completely out of time, but mamanged to post some of my thoughts...

Looking forward to hearing more ,and if I was a tad blunt and fast, it's exactlyu becasue I have to go back to work, and I'm running like hell... sorry for that :)

Hey Nikolas!

I appreciate the comments and you're absolutely right about the tracks; some were very rushed because I get very little time to work on them.

Usually I find out about them and actually turn in the finished product in the same afternoon within an hour or two, so I have to try to make the best thing I can without too much polishing.

I only got enough time to listen to a few of them and so far I like them in a sense. I like the feel behind them, but they are a bit empty. Even though, for some statements that is the idea such as Space 1, you could have still added alot to it. For example a nice arpeggio fading in and out would give it the same feel, but spark at least a little more interest or add a ambient delay to the piano and filter it to your liking.. I don't know, you can do alot to fix this. There are alot of effects you can experiment with. But, this is entirely my opinion of course. I'll post on some other pieces later.

So basically what I'm saying... make more movie music.

See that he isn't in competition with you? :P I see...;)

You don't call the Blackwater Isle soundtrack 'big'?

Hey Marius,

Like always, you make good and very fitting video game music, nothing amazing but still good. I think you should go for more movie soundtracks. Not that your video game music isn't good. And I'm not even sure if you've posted any movie music before. But anyway, you should do more pieces like that arrangement of Zelda, even though that's not exactly film, but I'd like to see bigger stuff. Mostly because you're going to get too good for video game music composition standards, I know you have the ability to, and I think you would be a great movie composer. Also movie composers make more money (I think), so that would be good, or you could be both which is even better.

So basically what I'm saying... make more movie music. Just a suggestion. Well either way, I'm glad I have contact with you.

Good luck with the music

This is quite off actually.

The game industry nowadays is almost as big as the movie on. Major difference: while the huge games are still based in LA, the rest of the world has a huge bite of the pie as well. Internet helps enormously.

Game composers, get real orchestras to play their pieces (when orchestral), and get paid around 1500$ per minute, for a 60-70 minute soundtrack... Do the maths. Normal LA composers should be getting around 300,000-500,000$ per movie. Incidently European prices are around 40,000
