And the MP3.

Sound and Silence - eSnips, share anything

Sound and Silence

6/8 Time Signature

100-140 BPM

Keys of Eb and Bb.

Xylophone

Vibraphone

Marimba

Bass Marimba

Finale 2007 file, the samples aren't the best.

Alright, this is my first full composition, for my Music Theory I final project, which received a 94% for the final grade. It took me approximately 9 weeks to complete the full composition, with periodic assessments by my teacher.

The structure consists of ABCBDEFABC (similar sections). Some problems that I encountered was a bit of trouble with voice leading, too much repetition in the bass line, and strong sections of writing followed by a few short measures of weak writing. All in all, it is the culmination of my Music Theory I course in high school. Tell me what you think, as I'm anxious to hear what others think of it, though I personally like it.

Sound good.

Hi, Foxhull,

nice piece of music, simple and...working!

I liked the change of tempo and all the themes you used were interesting.

This put a smile on my face.

Cheers!

I think that that was great although think that there are two things that could improve it. The first is that I think that the marimba could have done more in the first (third(1/3)) part of the the composition. Secondly (and I am not clear on the requirements of the assignment but I think that it would have been a bit more interesting if you added a part for chimes in which the chimes played chords (although I guess they wouldn't really be chords if they were only one to two note at once) throughout the composition.

Nice. The only thing I noticed was that the time signature seemed to be more 3/4 than 6/8.

Well, that will be addressed sometime soon as Marius and I have decided to use this piece as the subject of my lessons(percussion and orchestration). Thanks for the suggestions though.

Yeah, it started out 6/8 and sort of evolved from there.

Pretty good. It would probably sound better with real instruments. The tempo changes were good. I agree with whoever said trhat it needs something to lay down chords underneath it. Maybe try Steve Reich's technique of using an electric organ (it sounds surprisingly cool).
