I have arranged a studio tomorrow and we are making the 5.1 mix. I don't know when it will be finished though. The production might take long since

I am planning to sell it. homemade DVD ! I don't know who will buy it but we'll see.. what do you guys think ? Maybe you can give me suggestion. I was thinking to sell it through ebay. but that's unlikely since no one would have noticed it. any suggestions ?

I have also arranged some guys who are into animation and 3d stuff. But for that we will need much more time. First I was thinking that a psychedelic images would do but then we thought a subtle story would be nice.

Please get invovled! I like to create projects combining many ideas. Do post whatever you can think of.

Hmm, it would be hard to sell this stuff because it's so eclectic.

I would be interested to hear a short sample of the 5.1 mix once it's done, though. Was about to dispose of my 5.1 speakers but may now hold off with that. :)

always handy to have one around. :)

I am now listening and I just can't stop imagining the entire grandeur of the space , of the planets , satellites etc... This is pure genius! Your piece draws a 3D picture of the universe in my mind! It would be great if you could redo it for 5.1 channels !!!

Superb! :w00t:

eclectic music for eccentric people maybe ?

Hey Nightfly, this stuff is great. I love ambient music and you did a great job at it. I love the "desolate planet" theme, it is so perfect. I would definately buy this.

I think that combining this with images would be cool but it wouldn't let the mind make make it's own images- which is why this piece is so great.

Thanks for listening!

I think that your point is very interesting and made me think. I think that I agree with you. I'll stick with only music for now, besides, a 46 minute animation will be so hard to make and the rendering will take days or maybe weeks I guess. Also, if the movie will not be good it will destroy the whole idea and atmosphere of the piece. Good point, thanks..:o

yeah, no problem! I'm really looking forward to Europa:cool:

I am still working on Europa. It is taking my whole time these days and It took more time than I originally intended. My head is too much occupied with it that I find myself unable to even post a few words on this forum. But once it is finished I guess I'll get back. At one point I thought of posting the work in progress but then I decided that listening the whole thing at once is a much better experience.

Anyway, thank you all for your interest. I wouldn't have found the power to finish this without you.

Looking forward to it, Inal. I agree that waiting it out for the finished product will probably be worth the wait. :w00t:

I am currently having difficulty with a serious decision which might or might not alter the whole concept of this piece.

The piece is actually divided to five parts but I preferred to have it all in one track. Very much like a movie; if you like a movie you would sit and watch it from the beginning not from the middle.

But this might have a negative effect for some people. What do you say, should I divide them to separate tracks on the CD or not.

It might seem an unnecessary doubt for some but for me its a major issue. Since it's a concept music these little differences matter.

Your opinion matters ! Please tell me what do you think of this

I can't wait for this!:D

I'd say divide them into seperate tracks, because then, the listener's can derive your intended meanings and emotions by listening to it in your order, but then listening to them in a different order might bring different feelings and a different 'storyline' to the table. It's all subjective...

I would say divide the tracks because you could think of them as like "bookmarks" of the whole song, so on the first listen the listener could listen to it all the way through; but let's say the listener really likes a section; later on he could just go to the appropriate track. This way you could have the "best of both worlds." Anyways that's just my 2 cents.

Oooo, this was very cool. I could really imagine myself alone and afraid on Io. You might have already answered this, but what programs did you use to write this?

PS I think this is the most professional recording I have heard here on YC, it is of good enough quality to be sold on a CD (which I would seriously consider purchasing).

Thank you for your nice comments. I pretty much used most of the sounds from Reason, altered them a bit and mixed it using Cubase. If it sounds good enough with this version then how wonderful. As an audiophile myself, I never get satisfied. Yes, I am seriously considering to sell this but there has to be done a lot of work before that. Such as a more proper mixing and mastering. And not to mention the copyright owning and all that legal part as well. And all this will take a lot of more time since I am not under a recording company which would have arranged all this hassle themselves. And considering the context of this recording, no company would sign me no chance.

Thanks again for listening !

I'll have to look into these programs. I'm pretty new to this type of composing (electronic) and I'm trying to learn as much as I can!

Reason is not a sequencer. It emulates a rack of hardware synthesizers of your choice. It is quite cheap actually for what it can do and compared to sequencer programs. Cubase is the sequencer program used in most professional studios today. If you are going to get into electronic music you will need some gear, which will be costly. or.. :musicwhistle: .. if you know what I mean. You will also need a bunch of VST plug ins of various sort. I am also quite beginner in this medium but I try to follow the music technology the best I can, so If you need some advice on anything dont hesitate to PM me.

Ahem, it does include a sequencer though, other wise, where would you enter the notes? Admitedly it isn't a very good one, although that is going to be remedied in Reason 4...

And, I didn't know you made this in Reason. I use reason for some stuff and I must say this is great quality from it!

Reason has a sequencer for midi only, you can't use it for audio. Therefore it is pretty useless. That's why I didn't name it a sequencer and I doubt that anyone will. If you own a midi keyboard with controller knobs, it is amazing what can be done with reason. You can connect devices to each other and be much more creative in sound production and generation. It is a very powerful program. I think that you might not be aware of the full extend of its capabilities and thats why you don't like it.

 I love Reason! I think it is awesome. I have a midi keyboard and a Tascam midi controller hooked up to it. Yes, you can do awesome things with it.

But, actually sequencers started out midi only. It's still a sequencer, even if it doesn't do audio.

Sorry, my mistake. I thought you meant you don't like reason whereas you meant you dont like the sequencer in it. sorry.

Yes, you can call Reason a sequencer if you like, but for todays standards it is nowhere near a sequencer and thats only why I said it is not one. And that is also why I rewire reason with cubase to use it's sequencing abilities. Together they work like magic.

Yeah, the sequencer in Reason is very basic, but the version 4 update should change that.(Propellerhead Software )

Inal, you are amazing. I'm listening, and I can just imagine this huge story unfolding. I can picture a vast desert, with orange cloudy skies, and me, standing all alone, trying to find my way, out of the madness. This music would go perfectly with scenes from movies where the main character gets transported to some alternate reality or is living in a dream and is slowly driven mad. Good job!
