ARRANGEMENT: Video Game Symphony Concert featuring ZELDA, FF + others <project>

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum just so you know.

I'm 17 years old and I've been composing and arranging

various music for around five years now.

I wasn't particularly sure if I could post arrangements

of non-original works on this forum, so I supposed this

was the best place to put it if anywhere.

I've just started on a project that I hope to have complete by January of 2008. I'm sure people like Marius can help me out with this. It involves the orchestral arrangement of the varied music featured in video games. The concert will consist of each of the following:

- A Legend of Zelda medly

- A Final Fantasy medly

- A Mario Bros. medly

- An Assorted games medly

I'm doing this for my youth orchestra, so I'm well aware of the instrumentation, I will need no help there. What I will need help on is actually a little more basic. I'm looking for the most effective tunes to use in the medlies. If anybody here is familiar with any of these games' music, I implore you to post anything you have to say, unless it has something to do with how overdone Legend of Zelda is about now. Actually, my goal is to bring out some of the lesser-known themes from these games as much as the staple themes.

Here's what I have in mind for the Legend of Zelda medly at this time:

* Zelda III Tile Theme (fanfare only)

* Hyrule Field Theme (Ocarina of Time)

- Epona's Song

- Song of Time

- Kakariko Village

- Saria's Song

- Gerudo Valley

- Windwaker Title Theme

* Zelda I and III Overworld Theme

* Zelda II Overworld Theme

For Final Fantasy:

1. Theme from Final Fantasy 7

(order hereafter undecided)

2. Battle Theme from FF7

3. Those Who Fight Further (a boss theme from FF7)

4. Tifa's Theme (FF7) [Note: this is my favorite theme of all FF]

5. Aerith's Theme (FF7)

6. Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony (FF7)

7. Waltz de Chocobo (FF7)

8. Eyes on Me (a.k.a. 'Julia' from FF8)

10. The Man With the Machine Gun (FF8)

11. Waltz for the Moon (FF8)

12. Theme from FF10 ('To Zanarkand')

13. Hymn of Fayth (FF10)

14. Memories of Light and Wind (FF10-2)

15. Tarutaru Male (FF11)

16. The Beginning of the End (FF12)

For the Assorted Games medly:

(No order conceived yet)

1. Tetris Theme A

2. Tetris Theme B

3. Saga Frontier Trailer Theme (anybody know of a midi of this?)

4. Saga Frontier - Alkaiser

5. World of Warcraft II Intro Theme

6. Castlevania Theme

7. Sonic I - Marble Zone

8. Sonic II - Wing Fortress Zone

9. Legend of Legaia - Light of the Town (Jeremi)

10. Legend of Legaia - End Credits Theme

11. Legend of Legaia - Song of Memories

12. Soul Calibur 2 - Charater Select Theme

13. Legend of Mana Theme

A friend of mine is working on the Mario medly, so there is little concern for it here unless anybody has any good suggestions.

*already completed and orchestrated.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If anybody has any ideas for specific tunes/songs to add to these lists or replace items on these lists, please post. Anything will help. Even orchestration tips if you have any to offer here.
Please tell me what you think!
Here are two sites that I use midis from for my arrangements. If any tunes you would like to suggest can be found on either of these sites or other (I like midis, please), please tell me where to find it, provide a link if possible.
VGMusic.com
Video Game Midi Page
(Yes, I know nobody's allowed to post links to sites that could provide copyrighted material, that's why there are no links above.)
The following is an attachment of the Zelda medly as it is now - unfinished.
If you plan to view the .mus file, please follow while listening to the midi, the midi sounds better in my opinion.
-= This post will reflect any changes in the progress of the project =-
Some good music that people kind of look can come from Secret of Mana, a Square RPG for super nintendo.
:) Oh man are you ever correct; I'd love to help you with this. I'm going to assume that since you mentioned me you've already heard my massive Zelda arrangement in progress. If not then you'll probably want to, it's just about 11 minutes long right now and you can listen to it here.
I have a huge number of themes that you should consider adding and I'm more than willing to help you write these arrangements, but I'd rather not make any huge lists or anything on here. If you have any sort of messenger, I'd really appreciate you getting in touch with me through there...it just makes communicating easier. All my details are in my profile.
This post absolutely made my day. Get in touch. ;)
I've actually been working on arrangements of some of the old mario themes. Along with some of the new ones, (Super Paper Mario, Mario Party's 7 and 8).
I'd love to help and be involved in this as I want as much experience as I can get. If you have some pieces I can remix please tell me.
Of course when this project is done (operative word 'when', not 'if') I suppose anybody could use the arrangement for performance or rearrangement if they wish. For any who haven't seen the one score so far the instrumentation goes as follows: 2 flutes (one triples piccolo and alto flute, other doubles bassoon) 2 clarinets, 1 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, baritone, or euphonium, 1 tuba, percussion of snare, marimba, vibes, tympanis, and string section of about vln1=6, vnl2=10, vla=4, vcl=4, cbs=1.
WAIT
POKEMON maybe,,, its fun to listen to and everu SHOULD know it at least
and a saxophone/trumpet solo
of F-ZERO
[captain falcons theme]
and marios brothe rproballly as the finally
just a suggestion.
Oh yes. Crono Trigger for sure!
I'm just not as familiar with the Chrono series, that's why. And that's one of the reasons this thread is here, so I can find better music from you guys. Some people think Chrono Cross music is way better, others think Chrono Trigger is the way to go. What do you think are some of the best themes from either of those games?
Hmm, never thought of Pokemon. Interesting...
  • 1 month later...
Exactly how much did you look into the music of FF8? Your opinion may be different, but FF8 has some of the best music of all the FFs, namely "The Landing," "The Extreme," "Liberi Fatali," and of course, "Don't Be Afraid."
Just thought I'd suggest a few things that people would also like.
You gotta have more Warcraft II music. ALOT more.. best score ever.
And chrono trigger..
