wow,I

It's amazing that you can orchestrate so proficiently without a score, I would be lost if I couldn't look at everything and see what everything was doing all of the time. Thank you for posting this, I enjoyed it a lot, and think you achieved the 'feel' you were going for very well

Hey mark,

thanks very much.I would feel lost if I had a score on front of me!

That way of working is a total mystery to me,(at present), I totally respect that way of working too.

Thanks again,

Dean.

Hi Pheonix,

thanks alot!

I played all the parts in via midi,I use Protools,Kontakt 2,Platinum pro xp etc,

I wanted to base a composition loosely around the piano I know the sound and atmosphere I wanted to create and I decided on no brass pretty quickly.

I started with the opening piano melody which is the baisis for the entire cue and looped that over and over constantly finding and quickly sketching (in midi form)new harmonies and ideas re dynamics and orchestration that would suit different instrumentation.

I later flesh out and fully orchestrate the sketches, usually I end up with 4 or 5 sections that I begin to weave together, then I concentrate on the performance/dynamics and flow of the cue as a whole and work on the velocity of each note.

wow, that's impressive.... anyways one more question. Isn't platinum pro a

VST plugin? So did you just sample it with kontakt and use kontakt as the RTAS plugin?

Thanks in advance:)

Hi,thanks again.

I use Kontakt as a Plug-in in Protools for all my sample libraries including Platinum.

Hi,

my name is Dean just joined today.

This is a fantasy based cue titled OVERWORLD about a flight to safety through the frozen overworld, inspired by a friends short story.

There is no brass and very little low percussion,I wanted a delicate, fantasy atmosphere with dark undertones creeping in here and there.

Libs used: EW Platinum Pro XP / EW S.Choirs

Gear: MacG5 / Protools

title: OVERWORLD

I like how everything blends. The choir is nice too. I liked that explosion of magic at 1:12. This is a lovely piece. However, as I am listening to it...it seems a bit too theatrical to be an overworld theme. It sounds more like music for a scene in a movie (or a game). Oooh, the piano at 3:20 refreshes the mood. Brought back to the beginningish setting. Warmth and darkness at 3:55. Very lush and rich sounding. I think the decision to leave brass out was a good one. This sounded incredible. Could you post a score?

Hi Dustin,

thanks alot for your detailed response.

(Overworld is actually the name of the place in the short story that this is based on.)

Unfortunately I cant post a score because I'm self-taught,but I intend to focus on reading/writing scores in the near future using Notion software-(Thanks again Nikolas.)
