Flourishing Harbor

Featured Replies

First off, I decided to do this piece because alot of people have told me to.. well mellow down and do a more peaceful piece.. if thats the right wording. This is not done. It loops at 58, I believe. I intend to add a minute or more in before a loop it, but I want to post this to see if this is even worthy of continuing. I hope this is enjoyable. Please tell me what you think.

EDIT: New Version

Nice and tranquil piece, though some mystery is added by the strings.

I tried to listen to the song without imagining what title (Flourishing Harbor) would evoke, and I thought that this might be well placed in a adventure or Roleplaying Game in the long sequences where the players are exploring/adventuring/wandering and looking for treasures.

I think it's okay like this

Here is the new version and this is where I plan on stopping as far as arrangment goes from what I see. But, often people will point a flaw out or I myself will see it... But, anyway I added a section, fixed some percussion and mastered it. I hope you guys enjoy this.

Oh and by the way, I bought Legaia 2 when it first came out and it has a great soundtrack. I loved Fight, Then Riot! Which is Yasunori Mitsuda's piece. He is a fine composer.

First off, just a tip. Post the new version in the original so people know it's there.

I see no apparent flaws, but without a score, it is difficult to spot the minor stuff.

Did you like the concept?

At first I was planning to arrange it around a main melody, but I've been listening to Danny Elfmans works alot lately and he does this ' instrument 1 plays then instrument 2 plays with it, then instrument 1 stops and the instrument 2 continues and then instrument 3 comes in playing the same thing and the instrument 2 stops and it continues evolving like this.' He uses this for several different insturments, so I thought to do that with just woodwind instruments because I'm a bit better with them and horns then a strings and because it gives off a good vibe IMO. I used Clarinet, Flute, and Oboe. What do you think..?

I like the concept.

I also like Elfman's music. But passing around the melody and/or harmony has been done since Joe Caveman was banging on a rock and then his brother picked up the beat on a tree stump using a dinosaur bone.

Sometimes in Elfman's music it is just easy to see.

So don't think your stealing an Elfman Idea.

BTW I also like the music

Btw in your opening thread, when you tried to copy and paste your new version, you were holding down shift-V, not Ctrl-V, so your link is not there. oops

I do the same thing all the time

Once again a piece that sounds like it could be something off the Final Fantasy 12 OST. I definetly could see a bustling harbor like town while listneing to this song. These isn't much of a melody to speak of anywhere in the song. I am guessing you were going for more of an ambient track. In that case, yes it works very well and sounds professional. This isn't my type of song but it's well written and I can appreciate any well written song regardless of style or genre.

I like the way you used strings in this piece.. Gives a mysterious feeling to it. I wouldn't say it's ambience, but I would say it's a little contemporary in character, and that makes it really nice to listen to.

This is a good piece.
