Does Heavy Metal go under rock???

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my name is rob, and im australian. I've been writing midi's for two years and i use cakewalk home studio 1994... yes i know, pretty junky.

Anyway, i write lots and lots of midi's so as far as the list of things to include, i might take ages to get all of my midis on here. I'm more machine than man when it comes to composition.

Anyway, my question is: Is this piece (an example of a standard midi i wrote) the right thing for this site?

And of course, comments.

EDIT: Ok, so all the things we needed to fill out:

1. Techniques used: Tremelo Picking, Speed Picking, Discord, Harmonization... and lots of root chords.

2. How long it took to compose the piece: 10 minutes for the first draft, and another 20 the next day to polish off the notes and themes

3. Structure of your piece:

Intro

Verse

Prechorus

Chorus

Verse

Prechorus

Chorus

Breakdown

Chorus

Acoustic Chorus

Solo

Outro

4. Obstacles when composing

Knowing when to not get excessive. I always go overboard, double tempo and note values, and then have some silly solo.

5. Summary of overall piece

This is a metalcore song arranged for my band, or any band using 2 guitars bass drums and singer. It uses cliched riffing ( that is fast verse, harmonized chorus, open stringed breakdown line)

METCOR.MID

I don't tend to say much but... it scared my cat and it's my new ring tone on my cell phone

I give it three :D

it's my new ring tone on my cell phone

Funnily enough, the bassist in my band, his phone and ipod are loaded with my music, and so i'll be sitting there, and suddenly one of the songs will start playing as his phone rings, and it's different every time...

I give it three  ;) :)

Thanks alot mate. There is more if you want it?

Nice! I'd love to hear a recording of this...

The part at about 2:10 is nice and heavy :P

The transition to the cleans (especially at the very end) needs some work, and I think the solo needs some work too. Also, during the solo the rythym guitars were really hard to hear, was that intentional?

I'm a progger myself so I would add some odd time sigs and some synth and sample layers in there but that's just me:P

Anyways, nice job.
