  1. This is one of my all time favorite pieces by Gubaidulina. I tend to think of this piece as a good example of how unique and eclectic the composer's voice is in our own time. Gubaidulina takes traditional ideas of the concerto and adapts them to the more modern ideals relevant in our own day. An amazing work. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I have.
  2. All right, since we've already used up the last thread's maximum capacity for threadiness, here is a new one. It is here that we will post stuff for the Third YC Theme Challenge. So yeah. Here we go :D EDIT: Since I failed to explain this post clearly upon initially making it, I shall clarify everything. This challenge involved every participant submitting a theme of 16 bars. These themes were then randomly assigned to other people such that everyone involved must compose something using one of these themes as well as one based on their own theme. Aquatunic will work on JFTF's theme Luder will work on Pater's theme Christian will work on Austenite's theme Pater will work on Danish's theme Danish will work on Dan's theme Dan will work on KJ's theme JFTF will work on Christian's theme KJ will work on Luder's theme Austenite will work on Aqua's theme Important Information for Late Additions: The system of random assignment was necessary to ensure that all themes submitted were used and no one who composed one was left out. However, anyone who did not initially submit a theme when discussions about this challenge were underway in the previous thread may choose any one of these themes to work with and upload it when the they are finished. You should then post a link to your upload in this thread to let us know you participated so we can check it out. Just because you weren't one of the ones who was given a theme, doesn't mean you can't participate! Everyone is encouraged to join us in this challenge! Like I said, we just did it this way to make sure there were themes to use, and people to use them. Here are the links to various themes: Austenite: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7226/16-bar-theme-yc-challenge-jan-2015/ Danish: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7212/16%20Bar%20Melody Christian: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7213/Melodia Pate: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7215/16%20Bar%20Theme%20Challenge KJ: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7214/YC%20Theme%20Challenge:%20The%20Third%20Round%20%22Death%20Match%22 JFTFT: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7218/16-bar-challenge/ Dan: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7221/16-Bar%20Challenge Luder: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7222/16-bar-theme-challenge/ Aqua: http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/listen/7224/%2216%22%20Bar%20Challenge As an afterthought, everyone should bear in mind that someone had the idea to wait before listening to the music so they can hear the music by both the original composer of the theme and the participant to whom the theme was assigned. Everyone doesn't need to do this, but it's an option if anyone would like to do that but hadn't thought of it or forgot. :D
