The theme from the Halloween Movie (John Carpenter), Exorcist Theme (Mike Oldfield), Theme from Pshyco (Bernard Herman), Enity Theme (Charles Bernstien).... these are the one I think would creep me out the most

I have several different composing modes: I - I sit at my piano and just put my hands down and play something. If I like what I hear I write it down in my musical journal under the correct catagory (I usually catagorize by emotions suck as happy, sad, joyful, ect. II - I sit at my piano and play chord after chord till I find a progression I like. Then I play around with different inversions until I think its perfect. I then record it in my little notebook, so later I can... III - pound on my snare drum until I find a rythm I like. then add simple chord tones as the melody I rarely work with scores... and when I do that I'm just arranging/orchestrating what's already in my notebook.

Well I think that one field that is opening up is scoring for video games... some have greater quality than others though

I think this is great but... I've always imagined Gryffindor- A Quick... yet mysterious melody on Trumpet (supposed to be brave, nerves) Slytherin- A quick attack like theme dictated mainly by strings in their upper ranges (p.s. I'm thinking trills) (values cunning and ambition) Ravenclaw- A slow comptemplative theme dictated by woodwinds and horn (values wit and intelligence Hufflepuff- I've never thought about this house before but... probaly I guess sorta a well structured fanfare (values loyalty and fair play)

I can't wait to hear the rest... this piece is really relaxing... my mom is a massage therapist and she has a ton of "relaxation" cd's but this is better than most of her's that I've heard =]

I agree some of the best things in life are the simpliest.... which leads to my point... if the entry fee isn't aweful you should enter... write a song that showcases your strengths... and don't worry about it... have fun with it =]

Please Help and Critique Well I'm working on an Elemental Suite Containing 5 movements Fire Water Earth Air Choas I've only started work on fire and it is posted below The reason I wanted to post is I think I might completely rewrite the first 2 minutes almost and I wanted to know how to improve it becuase more or less I want to use the same themes. I love to write for orchestra b/c they are foriegn to me(I play sax (I've always been the rebelious type))... Although sometimes I write/arrange a piece for concert band b/c there is a 95% chance of my high school band performing it. But I think the downfall of writing for concert band you have to fill all the instruments for most of the measures... giving you less options

writing by hand is nessecary for me b/c it makes me think through everything I write before I put it down. While at a compute I feel the need to fill every staff the whole length of the score. Though I don't write in full score I think out the instrumentations and don't rely as much on the midi play back to tell me how it sounds but rely on my instinct. Writing in condensed score helps me plan sections of my larger work. When I finally open a new score in sibelius all the composing is done... all I have to do is orchestrate.

I'm going to say Dvorak.... Mainly becuase he is my inspiration. he came from a small town in Czech... His father was a butcher and the last thing his father wanted him to do was study music... Despite his father's wishes he started learning violin and soon several other instruments.... He entered a composing contest and Brahms (sorry bout mentioning another composer...) was on the judging pannel and reconized his talent soon he had several slavonic dances that were published and a sucess. For his music... I love how he incorporates several different thoughts together so quickly and then uses them again later but so that it isn't just alike but is still familiar. He music also motivates me to compose music that is dynamic and not just repeating itself

this might be on the same lines as what pianoman mentioned... you seemed to leave out the invisible barline rule (when writing 8ths make sure there is a seperation between beats 2 and 3 (only exception is with whole/dotted quarters) and if writing 16ths you need to see every individual beat(I'm pretty sure this is right but someone correct me if I'm wrong)) This music was great though... it was great harmony wise I far as I can hear... the only thing is I thought it ended abruptly and such a peaceful peice should have an ending that sounds peacefull

I've been in a slump lately... I can't seem to finish any peices and now I haven't started writing anything new in like a week beacause I'm afraid of not finishing it. I think I don't finish pieces because I am always trying to make them better and trying to fit something else in or add something to the end. I just won't accept that it is finished and that it is perfectly fine the way it is.

I'm looking for some feedback on about the first minute of my new composition. It is part of a tone poem based on Peter Pan. This particular part focuses on when Peter goes to the Darling House to listen to stories but then nana shuts the window on his shadow. I've always wanted to play triangle... let me rerephrase an instrument that is going to be similar enough that I don't have to start all over with learning a completely new instrument... Like I've always heard the clarinet is similar but I've tried to play it before and the fingerings are similar but so similar that I get them mixed up and play wrong notes...

sorry let me rephrase. An orchestra that plays classical music... I know some more mordern compositions call for saxs but most classical compositions do not

But I'm sure he much more fancies his own pan pipe music (as he dances to it) I would prefer to play for Hook. He would much more prefer a performance (although he is know to be good at playing the tom-tom)

I've been studying harmony for almost 5 years now as part of my piano lesson, have worked through my piano teachers 1st year harmony text book for berklee college of music... Any books on counterpoint?

pretty much not text book/lessons at all other than the brief section on counterpoint in the idiots guide to music theory... I pretty much just wrote a melody and figured out the underlying chords and wrote a seperate melody with the same underlying chords...
