Music Competition Late piece =(

Well... this was supposed to be in the competition but I missed the upload date =

I originally thought htis could go well with a scary or suspensful movie but give me your thoughts on this piece so I can learn from it [ I wont be updateing it] Feel free to update it if you choose to

I would gladly check it out if it were posted in pdf format with possible an mp3/midi file.

No, we aren't willing to do that for you.

It's very simple to use Finale to produce a whole host of different file types, in fact. Finale 2006 and 2007 can actually export as .mp3, and all versions of Finale (and NotePad too, I think) can export as midi. Just select ".mid" from Save As "File Type" and it will save a midi. A .pdf file can be produced just as easily with a simple program.

Go here - > CutePDF - Create PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Edit PDF easily;.

Download CutePDF at the left and intall it. Now when you want to create a .pdf of your score in Finale, go to Print. Then select CutePDF from the list of printers. It will prompt you what to name the file and where to put it, and then it will create it for you.

Finale wont let me view it. It comes up with an error message so if you put it as an mp3, I could hear it.

I tryed doing what musicman said but it just doesnt work.

Unless one of the forum managers wants to be nice and put it in mp3 format

I'll do it for you, I've no problem downloading the .MUS.

There's some bits of this piece I think work, and some bits that don't. I think the Snare Drum, even though it does not come out as a snare on Finale is out of place somewhat, and the trumpet line is too brief and irregular. The piece is quite a slow paced one, interrupted by moments of speed, such as the Clarinet.

Having said that, the low drone of the strings is a sure-fire mysterious effect if you get the notes right. More timpani for my money, but that's just opinion.

For future reference, Saxy, here's how to save your piece as an MP3.

1) File - Save As.

2) In the "Save As Type" box, select "All Files (*.*)"

3) Add ".mp3" to the end of the filename.

4) Ta-da. One instant MP3. But make sure that you get rid of all those bars of silence at the end.

I must confess, I used Audacity, but that works.

If you use GPO with Finale 2007, it will not save in mp3 - it will only save as wav (or a wave file incorrectly named as whatever.mp3 ). You have to compress to mp3 with another application.
