ok, i seriously need help with the ending of this piece. Overall, it's a rag, with a classical section in the middle, i'm just mucking around with 2 opposite styles to see what i can come up with. Anyway, after writing in ragtime, then classical, then ragtime again, i have no idea how to finish it. Please help me, i've got to get rid of the ridiculous "haunted house" sounding finish i have now.

oh, btw, while writing the classical part of this piece the tune sounded vaguely familiar to me, although that may just be to my ears, i don't know. So if i've accidently dictated a random piece of classical music from the back of my head somewhere, please tell me!! i don't think i have though....

anyway, any advice would be appreciated. :)

I enjoyed this, quite a lot  I agree that the classical bit did sound a little familier, but I don't think it's an actual piece. I think you did the transition between ragtime and classical extremely well, I hardly noticed the change until I realised we were on a different theme :) I personally don't think the ending is too bad, I imagine played on a real piano this would sound pretty damned cool :D

:)

I agree with Mark... the classical did sound familiar but not too familiar that you were actually copying anyones work... I liked it. The ending was fine. I'd just keep it if I were you. good job!

Ummm... did you know the .mid plays the repeat over about 30 times? It's twelve minutes long. The .sib is fine, though. I just closed Sibelius and I don't feel like opening it again to get the measure, but there was a measure or so where you in the right hand you have sixteenth notes, like a trill (not an actual trill), and the thumb on an A, or something or other. Can you rewrite the held note so it isn't just a bunch of tied sixteenths? Easy as pie in Finale, but I don't use Sib, so.... yeah.

The ending isn't bad, but you really need to end on a major chord, all that minor stuff in the last couple measures don't make sense. It doesn't sound particularly bad, it's okay, but you should just fiddle around with it for a while. Trying coming back to it with a fresh mind, listen to the whole piece, but stop the playback right before it gets near the end, then just sing or hum what you think should come next to get an idea as to how you really want to end it.

1:18. Fur Elise?

1:18. Fur Elise?

That's what I heard.

That was great bloycey, the transitions were way smoother than I expected them to be and seriously, the ending works fine, I wouldn't change it.

I heard Fur Elise too. But really it's not too similar, I rthink you can get away with it... just call it a quote.

Because its very classical sounding, why all piano? I could really picture marvelous runs on string and clarinet in here especially accompanying the slower part.

Its just an idea.
