YC Widgets?

I've been noticing recently that most websites have a kind of "widget," i.e. a small bit of code that one can put in his blog/website/myspace that, when clicked, will link to the advertised website. I think that many, myself included, would like nothing better than to be walking Porcaro Billboards :P.

A good example comes to mind from everyone's favorite foundation:

Mike, do you think you could condense the YC banner into a small button (or several, in varying sizes) with accompanying html for us to use in this respect?

When I saw widget, I was expecting something functional :P

I had a similar idea a long while ago and made this

Its just the banner shrunk to something sig-sizable but it's not as sexy as the banner. :toothygrin:

That WOULD be cool...

Maybe a small, horizontal banner, one row, with Young Composers.

And one just a little bigger one with "Where Musicians Share Ideas" on in as well. Good idea, Sapphire!

Would be nice if clicks on these banners could count towards our refferals. Maybe? Might be a trick to do, but I would think it is possible.

Actually, I think I have the right font on my computer, I might try my hand at this as well.

I still have the PSD file from making that, I could edit it in 30 seconds!

I just looked, I don't have the EXACT one, but I have a variation. I think the actual one in the banner is Vagabond Ultra-Light Rotated, but I have the non-rotated variety, it's pretty close. Check your fonts, you'll probably have it too.

I'm contemplating whether the ".com" should be justified left or right, but I'm kinda undecided atm, what you think?

I don't have it but I know where to get it.

If you have "young" "composers" and ".com" each on a seperate line, arranging them so that the "young" is left-aligned, "composers" is center and ".com" is right aligned so that the end of the "m" lines up with the end of composers, it could make a nice step effect

I like it like this, I've decided.

Centre-align doesn't look too bad either:

I know the font looks chunky but I stretched it to fill the space.

Since they're currently hosted on my photobucket account, which isn't the most reliable location, I'm not going to supply HTML or BB until I find somewhere better to host them. Actually.... give me a few minutes....

You start with and go from there... doesn't matter, I made some. Copy and paste to where ever. IT WILL NOT WORK IN FORUMS WITH HTML SCRIPTING DISABLED I.E. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO USE IT IN YOUR SIG. If the HTML doesn't work, try the BB.

I might have to make myself a website, just so I can stick this on it.

The button is a bit tall, though. Ideally, these widgets would be better designed if more horizontal, short and squat. Nevertheless, I've used my own html :)

Being a relatively unformidable photoshopper, I'm not really able to produce anything myself. The widgets offered thus far in this thread are quite nice, but I would prefer to use the font in the actual logo. I'll contact chopin.

If I can get my hands on the font and a higher res version of the banner or the images used to construct it, I could make something a little nicer. Do you think other Mike would hook me up with some of those files? :)

Slightly unrelated - can we have a mini pop-up version of the shoutbox that we can keep open, say, just to the right of our main window, to view while browsing YC at large?
