Suggestions for new collaborative projects

Virtualshock, are you interested? Anyone else? I suppose there's plenty of room. Knowledge in percussion is advised and encouraged, but not necessary.

  • In the Musical Games forum, somebody suggested the idea of having a group write a piece, where each person writes a specific part, and only that part. If the host says, let's write a string quartet, e

  • Perhaps we could all work on a piece based on one theme, and we could all write different parts to it?

How bout Beethoven's 6 variations on an original theme op. 34? ;)

Just to clarify I am interested, although Ive never written for a indoor percussion ensemble before.

I've been on drumline for 4 years but I think I'd like to know what we're writing exactly before I commit myself to it. I.E., arranging? original composition? full show/one piece? Jigga what now.

Original piece. Probably not a full show, but if the first piece goes off without a hitch, we could consider having three/four movements. :D

I need answers from all of you others that you can contribute actively (I.E. not sporadically) to this.

Would it be too much to all interested participants to compose their own motif/melody for us to use as a main theme? We all could decide together on which would be the best to work with. It can be a rhythmic figure, or a melodic figure. Or maybe we could combine the two. We can begin with this (if it's okay with everyone) as soon as we get the thread started.

Remember, this may go on for months. ;)

Thread started, post in there if you're sure you can participate. -> http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/yc-collaborative-indoor-percussion-ensemble-12573.html#post199291

What about a new work on a piano, cello and violin? a trio. that would be nice. anyone interested? We will go round in cycles, and more than three participants in a first come first serve basis (yeah basically a open ended project with one or two moderators to keep the music in order), and it can be an expansion of a national anthem (I dont know the Portuguese anthem!) or a free composition with ideas flowing.

Anyone interested???

You mean that anybody who swings by can add their little bit? I'm already involved in two other projects, but I'd partake. :w00t:

.... Hmmm...... somebody selects a national anthem that they're not familiar with (so unbiased) and writes an arrangement for piano trio (piano, violin, 'cello), and ends it. The next person writes a transition, and does their own anthem of choice... (or writes a variation on the last one) and we end up with a suite of re-realised national anthems. I'd be interested to see how this would turn out. I'm not to fond of the piano trio part of it... I've never had luck writing or arranging for it before, but that's MY problem.... :P

I'd like to see more than just the two current projects going on at one time here in Collaborative... so if there's interest.... I say go for it.

I would love to do this one! Count me in as the Piano or Violin writer! :D

Unfortunately, the only anthem I know is the one of my country (the good-old [young] USA), so I fail in that department... O Canada...?

Oh, and I LOVE arranging things for one or two instruments and Piano!! :w00t:

We'll see!

Well, I think we can do that, we already have a trio. So anyone who can start a new thread? I think in that way people will join that open ended project faster,

and oh, I dont think we must call it YC collaborative collage of National anthems, do we? (HEEHEE, its too long...)

If you want to get it started, I say contact a Moderator and get a thread going.

How about "YC International Trio"?

well, i think that will be fine, so I go contact the moderator? We have three people including me.

In the Muscial Challenges subforum, I've suggested diong a YC Symphony. We've the whole thing planned out and have enough people interested, I think we should start it after the new years.

I can suggest the variations. Somebody will give the original melody and every user of the forum would write a variation or several ones. So, we can compose a large set of variations (please read about Diabelli Variations).

I think we should do a Young Composer's Musical. I could pick a plot, some multi-talented person could write a script, and maybe 10 people or so could each write a piece.

I think this is a wonderful idea, and I would love to participate!

I'm sorry musicman, but this idea is also two years old...

Oh haha well then. I guess not:).

I was reading the YC String Quartet No. 1 thread and thought it might be fun to try again: a YC String Quartet No. 2! :-) I am not certain if anyone is following this thread much nowadays, but are there three others who might be interested? As suggested at the end of the first string quartet project, each participant could write for one instrument, and, perhaps every two or three turns or so we could plan for the next (and the past) few turns, discussing musical materials, tempo, dynamics, etc. If there is interest, I will contact a moderator about starting a thread here, or perhaps we could even start one in the Musical Challenges and Games forum, as I don't think it would be too out of place. Please let me know!

I want to get some people together and write a piece or two. I don't want to go at an entire symphony, but just a piece.

Instead of planning and taking months to decide instruments, speeds, themes, etc, and get no where slowly, I was thinking more of a 'spur of the moment' thing. Where each person in turn just writes down four bars of music for each instrument, starting with whoever has an idea. Do you think people would be interested, and would it work?

Anyone thought of creating a new music form patented by the talents of YC? Create a new template by which composers who contribute have to follow, i.e. an solo piano art piece that musically characterizes the elements of nature (fire, water, air, earth), a suite that mimics different common human emotions (jealousy, rage, arousal, vengeance), chamber pieces that imitate well-known composers on this site (a minuet in the style of Tokkemon or a Romance by chopin), Moment music, instrumental duels on relative major/minor keys, bagatelles on psychotropic drugs...Just something different...I know the above examples are wild and loony but they're interesting to think about.

I'm going to bump this because I'm interested in starting a collaborative project again, anyone want to have a go at it? No time limits or anything, just add what you can when you want!

I'm not sure if anyone is interesting in writing in a genre other than classical, but I was thinking maybe we could have a collab where one person contributes vocals, one person contributes lyrics, and someone works on melody/instrumental?
