My first composition

Featured Replies

Hi, my name is Charles, this is my first post to this forum. I finally bought myself a midi cable to compose on the computer, and this is my first attempt. It's supposed to be short and sweet, and make your troubles go away.

forget 2005 (mp3)

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum, Charles! Was this your first attempt at composition? I would assume not, because its melodic lines and harmonies are quite good: the piano left hand backup worked perfectly and the entrance of the woodwinds was ingenious: unfortunately, it didn't make me forget that school starts tomorrow...

well, first composition where i recorded stuff live. i've used the mouse/ click & drag method with the fruity loops program for a couple years. but with this program and hardware, i can finally compose what i hear in my head. thanks for the reply.

I remember the days when mother would wake me with the smells of freshly-squeezed orange juice, hot toast, and crispy bacon; when the rising sun would peak over the hills like a round pad of butter melting on pancakes; when the farm stock bustled about their business as Janice went to tend to the milklings; the feeling of dew on my fingertips as I frollicked through father's wheat fields after a spring rain. This song doesn't remind me of any of that. Zero stars.

What a nice review Sepulker! (j/k)

Charles:

I loved the piece. You did have some nice jazzy chords in there, and I loved the atomosphere you set! Also, love the flute part.

Great job, and keep posting!

Fifths in a non-popular song? Although it's been done, the fifths in this piece seemed kind out of place with the laid back theme. It seemed more like elevator music. Actually, it seems like some of the stuff on the piano.

The end is kind of dissonant. Especially in the clarinets. Other than that, a good, enjoyable piece
