Finale 2007 - Vista Problems

Featured Replies

Having just spent many hundreds on a new laptop after my old one crashed, I've had to setup Finale PrintMusic 2007 on my new Vista Laptop. I've got another 30 days to activate it... even though I've already activated it. (And those calls to America aren't cheap!)

The main problem are blue triangles I get throughout various pieces. (See attached picture) Is Finale 2007 acually suited for Vista, and how can I get rid of these lines?

Ta much, ADZ.

Get a mac, that is the only solution

Ok, well I must say that it is rather odd, but Finale 2007 is rather buggy itself, perhaps it is just Finale loving things up.

It actually looks like a problem with graphics. Could be a bad graphics card/ video card.

It might also be a problem with windows vista, or the program itself.

Have you searched the web or called/IM'ed Customer Support?

No, this was the first place I thought of.

I can't afford to call these people, I'll e-mail them. And Saiming, regardless of how well Macs operate Finale... they balls everything else up so I won't be getting one of those!

At least they work

Well my bet is that it is Finale screwing up, if you can't figure it out, why not install XP and skip Vista

After I've just spent 2 hours re-naming and re-iconing all my pictures and music? I think not!

I'll have to sort something out before I go back to Uni though.

Maybe you can go to Finale's official Help Desk, they are bound to know.

I don't think Finale 2007 is compatible with Vista. In the email I got informing me of the 2008 edition's release, "Vista Compatible" was listed under new features.

Your only option is probably to upgrade to 2008, or revert to XP.

Upgrading to 2008 would be the most sensible. Shame, I've not long had 07. I blame PC World for dishing out inferior laptops!

I am awaiting a reponse from Finale though to see what they can suggest... it seems to be the brackets causing the problems, but I'll see what they say too.

If by any chance you still have the XP installation disk that accompanied your old laptop, you could use that to install XP on your new machine. That would be cheaper than purchasing Finale 2008.

There's unlikely to be any point communicating with MakeMusic, as they'll almost certainly tell you to upgrade to 2008. It's the option that maximizes their profit, after all.

This issue is actually fairly well documented on the Finale Help Forums (on MakeMusic's official site... it's free, too), you should be able to find your answers there.

As far as Vista compatibility, 2007 isn't supported, but if you right click your program icon and select Properties, you can use the "Run as Windows XP" function. I've had no problems with Finale 2007 and Vista (using this method).

Having spent so much money on a new laptop I don't really want to stay still in the technological race. It may be more expensive, but I might just plum for upgrading to 2008.

And I've given that "Run as XP" thing but it doesn't seem to have gotten rid of the triangles. Bizarrely, what seems to work is deleting the brackets at the start of the stave.....

Well, I suppose it's up to you to make a judgment as to whether an

For pieces with more than one instrument (in Vista) you'll need to use Studio view until the bug is solved.

I've got the same problem with a small amount of files with '07 in XP... so i think OS's not the cause of the nice blue shape.

I had 2003, then upgraded to 2007 2 years ago, and have just upgraded to a new laptop with Vista (my old laptop was dropped by my daughter and completely ruined). After installing 2007 on Vista, it would not let me get past the Registration step (Finale hang right after I got the "registration is finished" (or something like that). I had changed the Compatibily mode but it did not help.

I decided to spend $99 to switch to Sibelius instead of spending $150 to upgrade to 2009. It's a special promotion from Sibelius for Finale user. I've always hated the Finale's user interface anyway, especially with not being able to drag note(s) to change its pitch.

I get those triangles, too. I am running Finale 2006c with XP.

I have been running Finale 2006c with XP since Finale 06 was released and I never had this problem until about two weeks ago when I went to the MakeMusic website and downloaded the updates for the font libraries. That is when my problems started.

I drag notes to change pitch in Finale all the time...:O

So... multiple people have seen my post indicating that the blue triangles are a known issue and no one has bothered to go to the Finale site for the (simple) fix?

Or this a reading comprehension issue? :P

Er, I had no blue triangles until I went to the site to get all of the available updates and NOW I have triangles... using Finale 2006c.

Something I missed or don't know yet?

Yes, I had this same problem trying to run Finale 2006 on Vista.

Then again, I've had problems trying to run just about ANYTHING on Vista. What a crappy operating system...
