December 16, 200718 yr Alright, first off- is there anything more you can tell us about this peice?? Onward to the topic. It's not a bad peice, but I have to say that the (xylophones, marimba, WHAT are they?) INSTRUMENTS... are a bit obnoxious. You could try re-writing this for strings and it would be a bit more enjoyable. Also, you DID keep a nice central theme in your peice, and for that I say god job!
December 16, 200718 yr and for that I say god job! *good Anyway, I agree with Alan, it would sound better with a different family of instruments, but the theme and melody were good, and the harmonies worked well together.

December 18, 200718 yr I agree with the previous posters that this piece has a fine theme. To me it has a good forward motion with interesting rhythms. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt. It is very short - a companion section to make a rondo would be great - that is, what is here now forms the A and then with a new B of about the same length, the piece would reach 4-5 minutes as an ABA rondo. Okay, on the sound being "obnoxious" - no, I don't agree. The percussive tones are in the main fairly mellow and musical - but they are percussive which may not be to everyone's taste. But I think the jolly mood of the piece comes across well with this instrumentation. The lowest notes are quite low which contributes to the texture by adding smoother tones in contrast to the more percussive higher notes. A very enjoyable piece.

December 18, 200718 yr I actually found the piece to be rather enjoyable. However, it seemed that the style of the piece was more for an indoor marching percussion ensemble rather than anything for chamber strings or whatever you had intended it to be. But I did like it though.
December 18, 200718 yr It's sounds like another attempt to use African people's instruments and styles into chamber music. Needs some bottom end grunt and a melody, for the embroidery to attach itself to. Good as a starting point.

December 19, 200718 yr oh i meant it to be that you had intended it to be for those instruments. just that the intention for the direction of the piece i think is different. I woulda added battery parts to it. I would actually like to see someone's interpretation of an indoor marching drumline on here. haha
December 19, 200718 yr Nice piece frantz. Love the theme, and the variation you added to this piece makes me want to listen to it again. I have heard lots of your other pieces, so I know using this kind of ornamentation is your style. No problems with that. Also liked the rythmic ideas in the piece. One thing though, is you should make it longer. :)
