relinquished
I have a question. Being a beginning composer, I'm still rather unaware of each instruments' ranges. If anyone has a chart/link to a website/etc. that says what the extreme and effective ranges of each instrument are it would be very helpful. I'm just talking about instruments common to orchestras and concert bands, no really exotic instruments (as I'm not even completely comfortable writing for common ones quite yet). Oh, one more thing. In terms of writing for percussion, how do you notate different types of hits and such (timp rolls, snare rolls, cymbal swells, straight hits, etc.)? Thanks! Romanticist
Oh that's easy, I'd advise you buy "The complete idiots guide to music composition" it has instrument ranges, chord configuration, a bit of music theory, activities exercises, everything you need to successfully start composing. If you cannot get this book, I'd advise you to research the instrument on my beloved en.wikipedia.org. Sincerely, Sir Violinist1
