Help recording

What are some good digital recorders. As in a program that will record what your computer plays and uses your computer as in input

thanks

... Could you elaborate more? I don't understand the query.

oK so I need something that when I play Noteworthy through Kontackt it will be recorded, and saved to a file.

does that make sense?

I think Sonar, ProTools and Cubase are the three leading programs. Sonar and Cubase have versions for users that don't need all the bells and whistles for less. You'll get people that are very vocal about the "professional-ness" of each of these, especially Protools, but I think all are very capable. I'm a Sonar user, but I've never used the others.

alright I will have to look into those,

thanks!

Go into Volume Control, Options -> Properties -> Adjust volume for Recording. If you get Wave as selectable recording input, you can record the wave output from Kontakt in just about any programme, be it Cubase or MS Sound Recorder.

Creative brand sound cards also have a feature called "What U Hear" which allows you to record the sum of all audio outputs audible to you at the time.

Instead of using Microphone for the input, go in the sound settings and enable "Stereo Mix" and check the box for that. Then record.

can I do that with audacity?

I've tried it before but I have not got it to work yet.

OK

So when I am recording I select the Wave out Mix & record, However nothing is recording, (I am playing music from Kontakt)

Why?

Wow thanks, I've learned from this post

can I do that with audacity?
Have you ever tried Reaper? I just got it recently, free download, it's quite superb. Beats Audacity hands down and doesn't have any white noise, Audacity seems to have a fuzz in the background whenever I record, I can't seem to get rid of it.

Anyways, it just sounds like you need to fidget with some settings. Make sure you have the global properties (Mike showed how to get to those) AND the program set to record with the same device. Try to get it to work in MS Sound Recorder first, and when you have it working, you can try it with your more serious program. Of course, if you are interested in simply capturing the playback and not necessarily editing it at all (reverb, effects, pasting separate tracks together), MS Sound Recorder will do perfectly fine, that's what I use to capture playback. For instance, to get rid of the 60 second limit, just record a few seconds of nothing and go to the Edit menu or whichever it is and choose Decrease Speed. This will make your snippet half the speed, and so twice as long. Just keep doing it and doubling the length until you have enough time to record whatever you want to record and you can record over it. Make sure you save the file in CD Quality format BEFORE you record, though, or else you'll get an unwanted low quality white noise.

I cant get it to work with MS Recorder either,

I do this in MS recorder Edit-Audio properties-sound recording volume-change to Wave out-record

search on google for internal recorders, i know it's hard..

try:

Mega Sound Recorder download

All2WAV Recorder download

they're both freeware, so, take a shot at it.

Those wouldnt work either.........

The issue is with settings... I tried helping him one-on-one, but I don't know enough about this stuff to be of any great help.

Fleximusic wave editor is a good digital audio editor and recorder i used, its having a unique recording options, it is awesome & free download.

Not sure if you are using Mac or PC, but for PC, go to control panels->sound->

then click on File (or was it edit), preferences (or was it advanced?). Then click on the recording button, and then choose to display "Wave out", "Stereo Mix", "What You Hear", or something along those lines. Then click ok, and then check the box for one of the above choices to select it as your current input. Then, you should be prepped to record audio direct from your computer.

If for some reason your sound card doesn't have any of those options above, you might try a rather round about way by routing your line-out (ie, what you plug into your speakers/headphones) to your line-in, and try choosing line-in to record.

By the way, if you are clipping, reduce the levels for the input (ie, wave or master volume slider).

I don't think there is built-in way for Macs to record streaming audio, so you need an external program like Audio Hijack or Soundflower to record stuff (or try the headphones to line-in trick again).

Can you post your experience with it in the recommend a microphone thread? :D

Well I finally got it working, it seemed as though the sound output was set to a different default, and would reset set itself. :)
