As I Watch the Sun Sink

Featured Replies

First piece I have completed in a very long time. Done in Satie's style. Decided to experiment more with seventh chords and some impressionism.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance for listening. ^_^

Hey, remember me way back from late 2005? I asked for the sheet music of one of your pieces to get it performed. Sadly it didn't happen cuz I went and showed it too late. Oh well.

This screams of Satie all over the place :P I actually loved the chords and textures you applied, but I think it was a bit monotonous for the first 40 seconds. The texture never changes, but I think the chords you use after 00:40 were interesting enough to keep it going. Also, one of the things that most disappointed me was the lack of dynamics in the first half of the piece. It would have really helped it.

As to the reprise of the first theme, I adore it. The change in texture and the little chromatic figure in the melody are lovely. The passage after 3:05 finally showed some more dynamics, and it worked excellently. The ascending arpeggio before 3:40 felt too much like an ending IMO, though. The reprisal of the theme after 3:50 was even better this time - beautiful. I can finally relate this piece to the title.

Thank you for sharing such a nice piece, I'm happy to see you back on track :)

How could I forget you, M? ^_^

I'm sorry to hear that getting my piece performed didn't work out. It flatters me greatly that you at least tried, however. :) The fact that someone wanted to perform one of my pieces inspires me greatly.

As for this piece, yeah: I had a nagging feeling the first half of the piece was too monotonous, but I didn't know what to do with it. Perhaps I'll toy around with it a little, and see if a better idea comes to me.

Glad to know what you liked it, though. Thanks for the review. =D

Mmm.... sounds more like night to me, especially in the beginning.
