Some film music stuff...

Hi everybody,

my name is Robin and I have been reading on this forum for quite a while but joined only today to participate in the discussions. So I decided to post some of my stuff first. :)

I'm 23 years old, living and working in Dresden/Germany (you know, the Richard Strauss and early Wagner city :) ) and studying composition at the local Music University.

I have been working as freelance composer for film and multimedia for quite a few years and have been working on several film and game projects, including international cinematic releases. I'm also working as orchestrator for several companies and composers.

You can listen to some audio files on my website Robin Hoffmann - Composer - Orchestrator - Arranger I have posted a few tracks from my recent film projects. All except one have been recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Any comments would be appreciated.

You have some pretty impressive works on your site. I assume you use EWQL.

Hopefully you will take the time to listen to some of the works here and comment with your obvious expertise.

Actually I don't use EWQL. Most of the tracks on my site are real orchestra. When I use samples, I prefer VSL and Project Sam. I actually don't like the sound of EWQL much.

Yeah, I guess nobody ever grows tired of standing in front of the orchestra and hearing the stuff one has been working on for weeks or months for the first time. Actually, these moments are the ones that motivate me the most, especially when deadlines start getting insane. On the other hand, there's also often a more or less slight amount of that feeling "Ok, if anything goes wrong, you're the only one to be blamed, it will all be your fault, and you will be responsible if thousands of bucks will be spent unneccessarily while you try to fix it." Fortunately that hasn't happened to me for real yet but well, these situation still put alot of responsibility on ones shoulders.

i'm not into film music a whole lot but i really enjoyed what you have done- i don't know it just seemed like a breath of fresh air, some sounds a lot like williams which is always pleasant. Keep up the great work!

Hey Robin,

I really dig the stuff here. Solid works. I think as you progress as musician you will definitely come into your own style. Its all really good, but definitely John Williams cloneish. Which is a feat in itself. But, the orchestra and your compositions are really great.

I would be honored if you could take a look at some of my work and tell me any critiques.
