The Man in Brown Pants

Recommended Posts

We have decided to retire the cartoon man, who became colloquially known as The Man in Brown Pants, from our logo. The reason for doing so is to avoid newcomers forming the immediate impression that this site is only geared towards "young" people or, moreover, that it is juvenile. (Despite the fact that we explicitly advertise ourselves as being a site for "young" people, it must be said that the atmosphere around here is far more civilised than a lot of other forums targeted at a more generalised demographic)

All that being said, we thought some of you wouldn't deal with his departure too well, which is why there's now an option in the User CP to use the classic logo. Scroll right to the bottom and look for Use classic "Man in Brown Pants" logo. Obviously, this only applies to the Default Style.

After the new software is rolled out, we'll probably be wanting a new logo, along with various buttons and other miscellaneous images. We may in fact run a competition amongst the user base to see who can come up with the best logo.

By the way, you'll probably have to press F5 before your browser sees the modified image.

Both the violin and the forum skin are liable (but by no means certain) to change if we eventually go for a significant re-design. Obviously we would ensure any new design wouldn't put people out in terms of finding their way around.

How can you possibly live without the violin up there???

And this new design...is it going to change that much? I mean, YC as it is is kinda nice to get around.

All I'm talking about is a new and better logo, coupled with a few enhancements to the design as it stands now. We're not going to be making drastic changes. Doing that would annoy everyone (including staff!) and indeed work out more expensive.

Ok, sounds good. You guys are the best... and where in the world do you find time to do this?

You know something mike..it's kinda funny, when i first ever came to this site..the brown pants man scared the crap out of me..for some odd reason it just told me to go away. I would have joined actually during the early summer of 2007 had I not been afraid of it. But yeah..change is good..sometimes anyway..
