Thanks for that guys, I had a look into some of them but in the end I found a torrent for EZDrummer which seems to be pretty cool!

Torrent? We don't need to know that, lol.

Good point, well made.

I got a hold of a copy of EZDrummer, which seems pretty good and works nicely in Cubase.

Better? :)

the torrent protocol is completely legal.

Quick question for you Cubase users out there: how do you change tempo? I was initially going to do tempo changes in Sibelius and whilst I still might partially, Sibelius does not do Accelerandos well at all. How could I do that in Cubase?

For example I want over a 2 bar period to steadily go from 100 bpm to 140 bpm.

Thanks for any help

Ctrl+T to enter the tempo map. Chose the pencil, or double click to create the starting point and the ending point. Normally it will be a 90 degrees corner and not slowly going there (bend). You can change that in the buttons above, but you could also just input very many different points of tempo, thus making it not exactly straight % change, but different every single milisecond (!) or something.

*tempo track.

:P.

New problem guys! Please please help if you can cause this is a major one.

OK, so I wrote my piece in Sibelius as normal, and exported the MIDI.

So far so good.

I then imported the MIDI into Cubase and assgined all the EWQL sounds. I hit play and it played back as I expected.

Again, fine, and I can change velocity which is useful.

But then I tried to add automation. Just a simple "volume" one, and it had no effect whatsoever. The message just didn't seem to be reaching EWQL that I wanted to change the volume.

Any solutions come to mind?

EDIT: NEVER MIND! Stumbled upon the answer. Kompakt player doesn't use a simple control like "Volume" for the volume, it uses CC11 (Expression).

Ah well. Sorted

While you're at it try the following:

Find "dfx" patches, or "mod wheel" ones and load one. Then go and input mod wheel information (CC1). Notice how the velocities change, while the notes are being played. You can have crescentos this way and more alive lines. Not that it's perfect but it's very good and much better than normal articulations.
