Finale 2009 Now Shipped

Featured Replies

WHEN DOES THE UPDATED VERSION COME OUT? THE FINALE STORE SAYS NEXT WEEK BUT ACADEMICSUPERSTORE.COM ALL READY HAS IT IN STOCK.

IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE AVAILABLE THE NEXT FEW DAYS ON MOST SITES; ON AMAZON IT BECOMES AVAILABLE TOMORROW, AND IT WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM MAKEMUSIC AROUND THE 21st I BELIEVE. I DON'T THINK THAT ACADEMICSUPERSTORE ACTUALLY HAS IT IN STOCK YET.

THE BETTER QUESTION IS: WHY THE HELL IS IT NECESSARY TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS? ON TEH INTERNETS, THAT IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING!!!!

Just hold your frackling ponies. It comes out when it comes out. Go to Finale's website and pre-order a copy if you are so eager.

I'm quite happy with my 2006 :D

I like my 2007. It works. I generally update about every two years, but that's getting harder. I'll probably update to 2010 when it comes out.

I have 2008. I think I'll go with Pang's suggestion and wait for 2010. I've already spent money on Finale already...

that wasn't redundant at all was it redundant?

I was just irritated and confused. (gosh!)

I pre-ordered Finale 2009 because 2008 was horrible.

I'm curious what exactly makes you say that 2008 was "horrible".

It worked perfectly fine for me, made great recordings, printed out lovely scores, never crashed, stable as could be. That's all pretty much non-horrible, in my eyes.

It glitched a ton for me, I had to restart my computer, let alone finale to get it to work, and it was difficult for me to work with it in general because it was so slow. This is probably my computer, but with 2006 I didn't have these problems, so...I don't know I guess my computer didn't like 2008. I'm sorry for generalizing it as "terrible" i just meant I had a bad experience with it.

Finale 2009, "now shipping" as of Thursday, July 17th, 2008 (today).

According to MakeMusic's website.

Hmmm...it said July 21st for me on Finale Music Composing & Notation Software. Perhaps it changes regionally?

and if you go to the website you linked, you will see that it says "Finale 2009 is NOW SHIPPING", right there, in the middle of the page.

Oh. Well it told me the 21st about a week ago. I guess they must have changed it.

My Finale 2009 should be arriving around noon today EST.

I got the confirmation email and phoned Fed-Ex last night to deal with the duties and taxes.

I just watched the promo video outlining what improvements I'd get when upgrading from 06 to 09. WOW! They've done quite a bit to Finale and it is looking quite incredible. While I still work with mostly DAW apps, I'll probably be upgrading my version. It's great to see the program continually grow and expand.

Finale 2009 now installed and running on my computer.

Lots of little changes, very nice ones.

So far I haven't come across anything major that bothers me, but there's lots of little things that will need to be relearned.

I will be pulling out some older files now to see how the new version deals with them.

Looking at the new features... Multiple page editing and the new interface for entering expressions both look sexy. And the improved engraver slurs could also be great, if they work. The other stuff doesn't really interest me much.

How do these things work out for you? And is there anything else to make it worth changing? (Well, I won't change immediately anyways, since I'm working on something with other people who use Finale 2008 and we'd get compatibility issues if I changed now - that's the thing that annoys me most about there being a new Finale every year.)

GAH!!!!!!! Why did I have to pay for the cruise last week instead of paying for a new FINALE?!

So... does the Engraver font have the trill-flat, trill-sharp, trill-natural articulations and custom lines fixed yet??

*pout*

Dammit.

sorry, I'm not sure what you mean about "fixed".

the engraver font trills (flat, natural and sharp) have always worked perfectly for me.

Is there really any reason for me to upgrade from my Finale 2002? Suits me just fine. :musicwhistle:

if you feel that it does, that's your decision.

I would never go back to using any version of Finale before 2006, and even then, I prefer the way 2008 works.

Just the change from '05 to '06 was a HUGE time saver, with context menus being accessible from anywhere in the score. With 2008, the new "selection tool" is an immense improvement over how things were before.

And now with '09, there have been more improvements to the way you work with score expressions. another time saver.

Since I work all day with Finale, saving time is a definate plus. I don't mind the $7 - 8 a month that the update ends up costing.

Yeah, even updating from 2003 to 2007 was massively worth the cost savings in time and the the additional functionality that it gave me. I mean, how did I live without meta-tools?

*****

*sigh* Okay, I broke down and ordered 2009 after reminding myself that I get to write it off on my taxes anyway as a business expense.

That's what savings accounts are for anyway, right? ;)

Should arrive next tuesday/wednesday... *happy dance*

It's funny how us Sibelius users have already had these features for about, I dunno, FIVE years! And ya'll have to buy a new one every year just to keep pace. It's such a dumb way to steal your money. Especially when there are no major updates.

But compatibility issues with the people I work together would be even bigger if I used Sibelius! But it "stealing my money" part isn't a huge issue for me, since I can get it practically for free ;) (but I have to bring my computer somewhere for them to upload a whole music package and for that they first delete your whole hard disc. So it's always quite a hassle...)

(But I haven't seen -any- notation program that does slurs automatically right in all situations. Lilypond does it quite well, but also not always, in very complex passages.)
