Rough Sonatina

Featured Replies

What better introduction to the forum than a musical work? 'Rough Sonatina' is a piece I started working on almost as a sort of experiment, namely an experiment with instrument choice. Instrument list is as follows: Harpsichord, Harmonium, Violin (I and II), Cello, Clarinet, Ukulele, and Percussion (Sand Block, Anvil, and Timpani). I hope you enjoy it. No score is presented, namely because it is not available on this computer, merely the MP3.

Thank you all, feedback is much appreciated.

Yes, thank you, I was aware of the topic, I merely chose to make my introduction coupled with music.

Thing is, people who see the music of a new member don't care for it nearly as much as they would for the music of a new member who's posted elsewhere - especially one who reviews other pieces.

With no contribution, you can't expect comments right away. Yet I'm sure you'll be seeing them once people get to know you, so no stress. Just keep that in mind.

Yes, I've come to see this. I've made my introduction, and reviewed several pieces. There are some nice works here, and I can only hope mine are rated among them, or someone can point me in the right direction to get there.

Welcome to YC.

This piece has an unusual experimental choice of instruments. "rough" as in "unpolished" is a good description :). An interesting concept but one that might benefit from a little revision.

The opening theme doesn't develop much before the rather abrupt change of mood at about 0:40 - I would suggest a little more variety and then a smoother transition to the quieter middle section.

I thought the piece really came into its own and flowed well from about 1:02 to the end.

Thank you. As I said, this was a sort of experiment, and I'd like to take some of the themes from this, and make a concerto, likely using the opening for a fast opening movement, and the two middle in a slower movement, and the closing, mixed with the opening, themes in the finale. I'm glad you, too, shared the 'rough' view.

Once again, thank you,
