orchestral elements blended with electronic elements

Featured Replies

hello all!

I'm a forum noob here, but I would like to share some of my productions with you all! A little background about me is that I come from Finland and I've been producing electronic music with computers, keyboards and soft synths for several years now as a hobby. My main genre for a long time was dance/trance/techno and one of my trance tracks was in number one position in dutch dance charts few years ago. But recently I've oriented into more chilling and calming genres. I'm blending orchestral, film music style compositions (well, very simple one compositions) into electronic elements and rhythms.

And here's my very latest production, straight from my 'music baking oven', titled 'Skywalk'. Download it here:

http://petrisuhonen.com/music/Petri_Suhonen_-_Skywalk.mp3

Genre: film music, electronic, ambient

Quality: 192 kbps MP3

Duration: 5:16

And please, drop a feedback, it's highly appreciated ;)

I actually liked this piece. I don't listen to eletronic music very much, but I've been trying expand my borders a bit, and your song was a great place to start.

The way the music ebbs and flows from one section to another is great. And that deceptive buildup at the end that suddenly drops off was a amazing. I especially liked your use of strings in what could be called the chorus.

You certainly have an interesting blend of genres and sounds here, even if the melodies themselves are a bit repetitive. Keep up the good work.

I really like this! I am very limited on what I can do outside of orchestral pieces, but I would like to know what you wrote this on.

The way the piece transitions from sections is great.

:) Thank you! :) I'm trying to 'break' into film & tv music world and going to start a promotion campaign with this song included. ;)

Thank you very much! :) I use a music workstation/sequencer called FL Studio (flstudio.com) and there I have many virtual synths (called software synthesizer) plugged in. That's where the sounds come from. It has been my main tool for composing for many years.

Yeah, like holy crap. That was super chill! Its usually hard to hook me into a song, but this song had me from the beginning. I can't criticize it because I can't hear anything wrong with it. Engrossing from beginning to end. 9.5/10!

Edit: Putting this on my iPod

Edit2: This song has a great peripheral feel. I mean, I like music that is engaging when you are multitasking, for example, I'm focused on writing this sentence but I can still get into the song without focusing on it. Play count = 5. Also, the very moment you feel it moving too slow, it picks right up. Just like a really good movie, this song does everything you expect it to.

Yeah, I agree this is super chill. I was poking around on your site and you have some other nice tracks on there as well. Combining electronic and orchestral elements was something I always found particularly interesting. You remind me of Squarepusher.

That's very nice to hear, thanks! :)

Thing I tried to do with this song is that because the composition itself is not so very complicated, I tried to keep different sections fairly short and did those sudden changes from one section to another to keep it interesting. :)

Thankss, glad you liked the others too!

One of my tracks titled 'Fever' (which you probably heard in my website) has been used in a documentary film about homeless Vietnam veterans. It has a bit of sad and dramatic feel innit so I think it suits there quite well.

Squarepusher is awesome by the way!

Oh my god this sounds so very professional, clean, perfect mixing! Everything sits in the mix so comfortably! I wish I could mix like you. The themes in the piece are catchy, and easy to remember, cool, as well. Love the vox. I can see this being a hit at the charts. Give it a title and you're good to go!

Thank you Nigel, I appreciate that!
