Vista Sound Problems

Featured Replies

Help! While working with Finale (2008), i'm hearing loud cracking sounds and the sound progressively gets worse as i work untill it completely, like, disappears... I heard audio problems with Vista were quite common; anyone have a solution for this?

The computer says it's sound card is ''Realtek High Definition Audio'', if that helps. Also, I have this problem while just playing music or watching movies too, though only the cracking part - working with finale/midi in general seems to be the b-b-b-biggest problem.

Hjalp?? :D

Have you updated your sound card drivers yet?

Yes, thrice. Tried all sorts of drivers.

Computer specs?

Well, I'd say your first problem is using Vista at all. :musicwhistle:

Actually I'm using Vista on my DAW with an awesome soundcard (I have had ZERO problems with vista) People need to stop bashing vista so much, it's WAY more secure than XP. SP 1 on Vista vs SP 1 on XP isnt even a contest !!! If you hate vista than you 1. Probably haven't used it 2. use mac or 3. are just plain ignorant using different OS's

You're first problem is that U ARE USING AN INTEGRATED SOUND CARD!!!

Try changing the sample rate/format for your sound card. I have the same thing and I have "Realtek HD Audio Manager" where I can change that.

I did try that too! But it didn't work. Now, however, the problem has somehow magically gone away of its own free will, so i'm cool.

Your post is highly presumptive of other folks. I know many audio professionals that use PCs and gave Vista a shot. All of them- I repeat- all of them have gone back to Windows XP due to a fury of problems. Some of the driver-related problems may have been taken care at this point.... but the other problems still persist.

I use both a Mac and a PC in my studios and highly prefer a Mac to Windows for audio production. It isn't because I:

1) Haven't used Vista.

2) Just use Macs.

3) Am just ignorant of different OS.

In my experience, Macs have a better, more reliable performance when working with video and audio than most PC set ups. This is related to both the software and hardware on the Mac. Consider this: professional production houses want to produce the highest quality sound or video assets possible while keeping their costs down. This is how businesses stay alive and make a profit. Macs are traditionally more expensive than PCs and yet nearly every professional studio I see is equipped with Macs. It isn't just because they're in fashion right now. It isn't because the folks working there don't know PCs. It's because for the line of work- they simply work better. They're a better investment.

There are always pros and cons to any set up.

Regarding the integrated sound card: completely agree. If folks wanna do high quality audio work- then they need to invest in a higher quality internal or external sound card. It's just that important. :)

@nathan : We'll I only meant that there are a TON of people that I've talked to that bash vista CONSTANTLY without even trying it, heck I was one of those people until I built a new pc that could easily handle vista and a sweet sound card. Personally I don't use/buy Mac because getting the EXACT same specs on a PC is like half the price.

Trevuar- Glad it works so well for you.

For me- I like many of the applications made for Mac that produce audio. I get better work flow (especially with regards to post production for films) and the overall environment seems to be much more reliable.

I'm not knocking PCs- I use them too. However, for my needs, Macs simply fit me better.

Before I start:

I don't hate Vista.

That said, its just not up to par with XP, OS X, or Linux* for audio engineering/composition.

I have used all four and it is my opinion that while Vista can (arguably) do some things better than XP, it just fails miserably when I need to compose. In fact, booting into linux on my laptop and using XP in a VM uses less sys-resources than booting into Vista -natively!

@trevuar: that is why I use a "Hackintosh" most of the time.

*Linux, unfortunately, can't support Finale outside of Wine or a VM...yet!

*shrug* I have no issues with Vista and sound. My sound card works perfectly well, thank-you-very-much.

I have had the same problem anders if it persists reinstall your sound card and the problem should go away.

Hi,

Um...I'm actually having the same problem. I also have Vista (and I actually can't tell what everyone is making the big fuss over it for--it seems fine to me), whenever I use the playback on Finale 2008, it sounds like it's hiccuping or something...I don't know.

Help??
