Piano Concerto in Cm

Featured Replies

I wrote this piece a while back now. It was inspired by the anger and betrayal of my ex girlfriend. After we broke up i spent months and months writting and perfecting this piece so that it may be performed. Alas that dream never happened.

The beginning starts with piano chords showing the frustration of the player and then the strings come in, and off you go into a whole stream of emotions.

Enjoy. :)

The beginning sounded a bit mushy with all those chords in the low register. I imagine the tone would be a bit sharper on an actual piano but maybe you should reconsider voicing the chords a bit higher. I actually didn't hear this as much of a piano concerto as film music. The melody is very clear and used throughout and maybe it's just something about dramatic works in minor keys that screams "Film music" to me. Or maybe it's just a heavy usage of full strings. And that brings me into my next problem, there was too much usage of strings and not enough instrumental balance. Actually, wait... are *there* any other instrument families besides strings and piano? If so, I'd really recomend writing for a full orchestra. Or at least using pizzicato and solo strings. Acro strings can get repetitive after a while. I definetly wanted some quiet pizzicato strings at the end to accompany the piano. It felt too empty with the piano alone.

Overall, I'd say it's a solid piece but it lacked some originality to me. Not that that is always a bad thing. By the way, did you just intend this as a single movement concerto or is this just the first of three and you'll be posting the others later?

WOW you must have been pissed!!! Nice piece though :)

Hey--

Do you know Rachmaninoff's (Rachmaninov for the old-schoolers) second piano concerto? The piano introduction, orchestration, and even beginning melody resemble it rather closely. I was wondering if you had that in mind while writing it. (That, and maybe some good get-in-the-kitchen jokes.)

i like it! i have always like c minor. :)

my only complaint is that it seems like for most of the piece, you have the strings play a melody while the piano just kind of stays in harmony while doing different tricks. more interesting instrumentation would really light your music up.

The way the beginning is set up seems to close to Rach's concerto for me. There's a chordal piano intro, and then the strings come in, just like in his piece (with a melody nearly identical to Rach's, even.)
