October 26, 200817 yr I had originally composed this piece going for an impressionistic style. . . it didn't quite work out. But still i am happy with the result. Rhapsody (still trying to work out a better name) is a relaxing and often modal piece. I am handing this in for my year 12 assessment so any constructive comments would, of course, be much appreciated. Thank you. it feels good to be back on YC, it's been a while. THanks again everybody. impressionism.sib rhapsody.mid

November 3, 200817 yr 90 views... yet one comment only. oh my. i need to hand this in soon, i accept ALL critisism.ahh oh well. Because people come into the thread ready to comment, but few people can open Sibelius scores. Post a .pdf and you will receive many more comments (from myself, for example).
November 3, 200817 yr Listened to it (though can't open the score) - I really like it, very atmospheric. I wrote an impressionist 'rhapsody' for my Y12 composition module (I couldn't fit the structure I wanted into the 3mins or whatever you had to write in so I just chopped it up and called it a rhapsody) and I will say that if you can play it, get the school to do a recording of it for you. Even though your midi file is pretty good (mine was terrible - it was a piano quintet, the strings were bad and I couldn't work out the rhythms in some points to notate them proplerly) I think I got such a good mark because I could show how I really wanted it to be performed, that I'd written it as a piece of music rather than a sibelius file. So yeah, that's a good idea. When you post a .pdf of the score I'll offer some more constructive feedback if I can but on the whole I don't think you should be worried - looks like full marks/nearly full marks material to me, having gone through the process two years ago. Well done!
November 9, 200817 yr Wow this is great! I love the harmony and the melody, they weave together so nicely. If it was a little longer I'd definitely like to play this myself just as a piece to enjoy in leisure time. A couple of comments: The transition in measure 18 seems a little awkward, the duples seeming a little too sudden. Also, I wish the section starting at measure 27 with the running 16th notes went on longer. As it is now it seems more like a fragment that was throw in on a whim. If you could expand that section a little it would make the consequent transition smoother (the one with the rit.). Other than that, I love the piece and am sure it will receive high marks. Nice job!
November 17, 200817 yr beautyful piece with jumpping harmony.... but why rhapsody? your song is kind of absorbing music with feeling serene. i thing that serenity is proper name anddddd ofcourse u r the only one who choice ur own songname ;) by the way- i think that u must so interested with debussy, right? some modulations (very short, im scare they were modulations or not) without bridge remind me debussy....... finallyyyyy very nice piece and sry 4 poor english >:D<
November 17, 200817 yr I'm with Amir on this one. It's a great piece, I love the shift a little after 1:00, and it's got some great rhythmic harmonies, but a title change is, in my opinion, in order ;)
