Scherzo for Flute and Pizzicato Strings

Featured Replies

This is a piece that I think would serve well as an intermezzo, for instance between acts of a comic opera. Please tell me what you think of it. Do I give the flautist enough time to breathe? Are there any impossible passages? Thank you in advance!

Welcome to YC. It always helps to comment on other people's post and some will return the favor.

I think a you have no problems with breathing, but all that tounging would get old quick. A few slurred notes would help in that respect.

Not much to the piece, but I think that is what you were after.

Nice

To branch out on Ron's comment...

I agree, I like the flute melody a lot, but I think the direct repetitions of the motive first found in m.9 could be made much more interesting by slurring one of them. For more contrast, I think slurs would be interesting in the ascending arpeggio figures. Speaking as a flautist, it's definitely playable.

Perhaps you could also have some longer notes held in the flute somewhere in the piece as another section, against the pizzicato? I think it would provide some more nice contrast.

Very nice tune though, I think it would serve its intended purpose very well!

Yeah! Great material. However, I request for all that is Holy, PLEASE fix the key signature to be A major. Your tonality is A major and C major. PLEASE use them. That way the flutist won't kill you with all those accidentals.

Also, you have to indicate pizz. on the string staves, not just the title.

Put a smile on my face anyway. Good job!

You should use the pizzicato on the flute too :) It sounds really good!!!

The score is unforgivably sloppy, collision-wise.

The strings require a pizzicato instruction.

The flute part doesn't have any tonguing indications.

The piece is notated in the wrong key.

I love it!

It is like mushrooms opening birthday presents!

:w00t: this comment made my night.

Also, your name isn't on the music. It's only [composer]. The final bar is too 'long' if you know what I mean!

Very nice! And very good! Well done!

The music is light, airy and can be used as an intermezzo. I like especially the harmony. I think it is an entertainment music, but the harmony makes it more interesting and not typical (it is not a disadvantage). The piece may be played as a theatrical music, which illustrates e.g. comedies. The time signature could be emphasized with accents for a first part of the bar. It is composed (I think) in a style of divertimentos.
