Prelude no.2

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! I've been playing music for about a year and a bit now, mainly the piano. Recently I've gotten interested in composition and have composed a couple of simple pieces. Comments and advice on how I can improve the posted piece would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Balthazar,

I think the beginning was good. You harmonic progression is outspoken. I like that. I think you lose the momentum a bit when the rhythem goes from half note accents to a whole note accent. Also i couldn't hear a realy clear melody.

Maybe you could leave the rhytmic accentuation as in the beginning a try to write a melody over it.

Overall this is not bad for someone just starting to compose.

I don't know if this is your first post, but if it is:

Welcome to YC!

Thanks mate! Yeah, I think it becomes slightly drawn out and monotonous in the middle... thanks for the advice!

its actually pretty nice. especially for someone starting to compose. :)

but i noticed that as i listened and listened i started to lose interest. it just sorta goes on and on and on. there are some good ideas in there, you should just sorta make the ideas "pop".

cool! Yeah, I'll definately work on that. thanks for your input!

I noticed two mistakes in the score:

1. From measures 29 to 35, some of your stems are pointing in the wrong direction.

2. With regard to measure 42, I don't think many people can make that 2 octave stretch.

I liked this a lot ! strictly my opinion, but with a clearer, easier to follow variations on the melody, your cord progressions would go very very far! I would love to hear more work!
