Harpsichord Piece

Featured Replies

Hi,

Yes, another piece inspired by my partner, as she plays harpsichord/organ/flute/violin/viola/piano and is a voice major. I have a lot of work to do.

Enjoy this, it's the first HARPSICHORD piece I've even been a bit serious about besides my very early works.

This is the best harpsichord piece yet written. You are the brightest star of the musical firmament.

is it modern ??

At first this sounded like Scarlatti and the likes, but in the middle section (the 'change of key' section), it became 21st Century, and this was confirmed at the end with the 'cadence'.

I am not convinced about the key changes, and why are there 2 extra bars of 4/4 time on the first line? I couldn't see any time signature changes, so there is no need for these.

In bar 47, there is no need to have a 2nd voice (thus producing rests), simply add the C to the G as a chord.

I have to admit that I do like the chromaticism especially in the sequences, and the fact you are swapping the 'tune' between hands

Btw, why did you reply to your own post?!?!?!

And more to the point, slatted your own composition!!!

Nice piece, but i think you should start with a more clear subject, the sequence is very good, but do a 2 bar subject first. The key change is not very baroque, and the key you changed to is not baroque at al, its a typical romantic key ( the love many sharps ) Hehe i understand why you commented your own piece like that, no need for it though.

Try to do a invention :)

i would like to evaluate this harpsichord piece in midi file format.

LOL I love these kinda questions.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CLEAN UP YOUR SCORE!!!!!!

Adding more accidentals does not make it look cooler and more modern.

Adding redundant time signatures does not make it look cooler and more modern.

etc.

etc.

The penultimate chord HAD to be a V7 or the whole thing lays to waste IMO.

Who said it was baroque? It's more like broke...

A lot of times, when I find myself in front of a piece in this state, I go through each note and try and put in as much contrary motion as I can. It's amazing how much depth you get out of this sort of 2-voice writing when you avoid similar motion!

I'm lazy, accidentals appear because is Press R alot and the accidental carries over. It's not conscious. Also, the 4/4 thing is just me forgetting to delete it. Stop assuming.

Boring. Sometimes parallelism adds a nice contrast if it's done right with thirds/6ths/10ths etc.

That's even worse sir. You're LAZY!!!

If you gave this to someone to play, you would be laughed out the door.

Stop trolling, Justin. It's beneath you.

I'm not trolling. I'm stating the obvious. Tough love is better than letting Alex go on and think the presentation of this piece is ok.

You could be a bit nicer about it tho, Justin ;)

If you gave this to someone to play' date=' you would be laughed out the door.[/quote'] that part is just not necessary :P

Back on topic please.

Nicer I will be. But being laughed out the door, while harsh, is the real world. Besides, Alex is 21; he's a big boy and can take some criticism I hope.

I agree with Justin.

Well i disagree with Master Yoda (Justin), If you continue to behave like that, you will be laughed out door and then get your donkey kicked. The world is harsh, then you can be as rude as you want to? i cant beleive my own eys! You are a big boy and should know how to behave better. What you are doing is not ciritc, its rude talk, read your own post please :

Does this look very polite? you got a realy bad attitude!

If i were you, i would take 2 weeks off from music, and analyze and study normal human behavior!

Hope you take this a constructive cirtic of your attitude, and i realy hope you improve!

...being laughed out the door, while harsh, is the real world..

No it's not.

Maybe you need to hang out with some more "real" musicians - we're not assholes, no one would be so rude or condescending about playing a score with a few redundant accidentals.

There's not a few, they run rampant throught the whole thing.

I wonder if it is the New York music scene that's different than the rest of the world.
