Perfomance Thread

I've got a fairly large range on the clarinet: 3+ octaves, from the low E below the staff up to the A second octave above. The A isn't sounding too good, but granted it's in the register where it's quite difficult to have any good sound at all. And I can only hit it a few times on a *good* day >.

If I could record piano I'd offer ... but... :(

Cody Loyd... check out the instruments I play and see if you'd like me on the "team." I'm not sure what this free improv. deal really entails, so I'll eagerly read through any details you provide in the appropriate thread.

I've taken a look at Berlioz's "Wasteland"...I can probably play it but I don't own a grand piano OR a recording system that's worth anything. (When I record, I use a headset. Yeah. A headset that has a tiny mic attached to it. -.-'')

I, however, have one request:

"Bolt" for two trumpets and piano!

I've attached a .pdf of the score and midi, in case anyone is interested. :)

Doesn't seem impractical to me. Looks like you used Sibelius for the notation - could you extract the parts and supply a .pdf for each trumpet 1, 2, and piano separately? I couldn't do piano, you'll need to find somebody else, but I could attempt the trumpet parts for you.

Btw., your performance notes pretty much made my day.

Oh, question. Are the staccatos esp. near the beginning supposed to be like pin/needle pricks, or just plain regular staccato with a bit of tone behind them?

Some cautionary accidentals would be VERY appreciated. I've been playing trumpet two and at measure 22 it seems like an F#... but after playing trumpet one I realised it was actually an F natural. Both A-flats at the end of measure 26 should also be marked. ... and measure 24 in trumpet one, also. Measure 32, trumpet 2. I've been thinking that was an A natural for a while now... make it a B-flat instead of an A-sharp, please. Yes, I know I'm demanding. The lips have to recognise that we're moving up a minor third, but the eyes see a second in the music. Augmented seconds are deceiving. Put a cautionary sharp on the F-sharp right before that while you're at it. I've been playing F-natural. Oh, and cautionary G-sharp in trumpet one on the end of beat 3.

After going to about page 4, I'm pretty sure I couldn't play this. I'll work on it, I have nothing else better to do, but no guarantees that the results will be pleasing. It's a lot of hard work - too many random notes for my trumpet chops which are used to more melodic playing. This is definitely a style of playing I'm lacking in. But I'll work on it for the benefit of the doubt. ;)

Sure! I'll post parts tomorrow; check back tomorrow night or Saturday morning. :) (I'm a little busy with homework and finals...><)

EDIT: Oh, and the staccatos at the very beginning: they're up to your interpretation. I'm curious as to what different performers will interpret the piece as. :D

Hi there,

I am an Irish composer looking for a violinist. You don't have to be in Ireland! If you would like to see some of my stuff. I'd really like to work more closely with someone. In other words, to write for a particular musician. I have been composing a few years now - it's what I studied at Uni so I have a fair idea of the instrument but I am working on solo violin pieces and contact with a violinist, the eventual performer of the premier, would be great.

Jai

I can do it! PM me and we can work it out.

Guys,

I'm limiting the pending pieces. Otherwise we will have an evergrowing list of pending pieces and no acceptences. I hope this will help a bit. I'm leaves the pending pieces like it is right now.

If you want your piece in the pending list and you play an instrument, a word of advice would be to look for ways to decrease the pending list.

Okay, I will be able to put a little more effort into them, now, thanks!

And gijs, I reckon as long as the pending pieces are for different instrumentations, it doesn't matter that much how many we have. If somebody wants a string quartet and we have all the people to separately record the parts, and somebody wants a clarinet sonata, and a horn thing, and a trumpet duet, and two piano solos, and a flute solo, and an oboe concerto, a bassoon short, and ect. different people all cover those instruments, as opposed to if we have 20 requests for flute pieces and 1 decent flute player that's overtaxed. See what I mean? I sorted your list of instruments out by score order (hope you didn't mind!) maybe you could do a sort of similar thing with the requests to it's easy to visualise what's on queue instrument-wise when it grows. Obviously if we just have a TON, than you can put a stopper on it.

You know, a (good?) way to solve this is just have a page in the Wiki as a sort of bootleg craigslist -- just sort of a bulletin board, you know?

Have it separated between performance requests and offers for musicians; then between specific (like one piece or one instrument) and more general (like my situation [see my sig] or Enigmus's [who has a huge trove of instruments]). Because it's on the Wiki, you can simply remove your post when it's filled.

The biggest issue would be placement of the page and avoiding poor editing. Maybe a link on the home page and a starting template could be in order?

It's a wonder I hadn't thought of that. Might be a good way to get this idea to grow. I'll start a page and we can work it out over time. Thanks for the idea! I've already linked to this thread on the homepage, by the way.

Edit: I started a draft. The page is called [[Performance Network]]. Suggestions for a better title are welcome. Right now it's a pretty ugly page, but it has the content. Feel free to edit. I lost some links and stuff, so edit as much in as you'd like.

Edit again: I revised the page into a nifty looking table format. For those who are not familiar with Wiki code, get familiar. But I provided simple and intuitive instructions on how to edit the page, so you should be able to figure it out yourself. I'll begin adding links. Let me know if there are any problems.
