Don't think...play.

this..

OK.. basic layout of the rules..

when the notes are just clopped together like that you play those notes in any fashion/order/register/tempo whatever.. but stick to those notes.

try to follow dynamic markings

notes with X for a notehead are indeterminate but still in rhythm (end of first line )

during the solo sections.. everyone keeps on as they are while the soloist plays above them.

on the second line, the x headed 8th notes mean indeterminate pitches with an even rhythm.. tempo is up to the performer

third line, play the notes there in any way you like.

wavy lines indicate the intensity of your playing... interpret that however you like.

FREAKOUT.. uh.. F R E A K O U T (get it?)

line 5.. the order of the pitches should be kept.. but tempo and rhythm are up to the performer.

When times are given as a range (4.30-4.45) the change may take place anywhere during that range. in this example.. the metronome will start clicking at around 4.30, at some point before or at 4.45 go from whatever else you were doing to playing the given line in rhythm. the metronome won't stop until 5.15 or so.. but feel free to switch to the next phase (doing whatever you like with the given pitches) anytime after 5.00 the idea is that the transition is more of a fade in/out than a sharp change

oh boy..

don't forget the last pitch.. which is anything you like.

there will be a click for the ending cutoff.

Solos end at the crossed out solo# at the end of the solo.. the soloist should just start doing what everyone else is doing as you bring down the volume a bit.

Solos are completely free.

a better articulated version of the above 'rules' is on its way :)

ALSO.. don't worry about it. you aren't going to screw anything up... its all part of the fun. :)

as robin says..

Don't think...play.

The score has been updated with performance guidelines, and the click track has been uploaded.

Does it all look/sound manageable?????

If so.. then I'll give more specific instructions and we can get started!

(Although.. only ONE person uploaded the test collab.... but thats ok that one isn't all that important)

I tried to get the score and it said that the file or folder has been removed...

By the way, I'm thinking I could do mainly nonpitched stuff.

try again.. I just updated it.

I'll see what I can do about perc. I didn't really plan for it in the score, but I WOULD like to incorporate it.. so stay tuned :)

Actually, why don't I just use your score?

I could go off of what you have using my nonpitched stuff.

Let me know what you think.

well.. that was my plan, I was just thinking of adding a few more guidelines and telling you to have fun.

basically.. follow the dynamics and use the wavy lines as an indication of how sparse/complex to be and when there is a beat.. play a beat :)

Do you have access to a kit? that might be my preferred way to go if you can do it, of course augmented by anything you can get your hands on :)

if not.. then whatever you've got handy will do

Ok.. it is time to do this.

The score and click track have been posted so, if you have not already.. go download both of them. Please take the time to read through the score and listen to the click track (at least the relevant parts of it :) ) The times on the click track and the score match exactly.. so I suggest that you use the timer on whatever program you are using to play the file back as your peformance timer.. that way it all matches up.

I don't really care HOW you go about recording yourself.. but probably the easiest is to load the click track into your computer program of choice (audacity, cubase, whatever) and play along with it, recording into a different track.

PLEASE use headphones when you record :) I don't want to hear the clicks. the click track will not be a part of the final project.

This performance really isn't going to take too much practice because for the most part, you are just doing whatever you like. I do however suggest that you play around with the fragments a little, just so you know what type of things you can do duing those free sections. The hardest part of this is switching between the freakout sections, and the timed unison lines.. You should probably practice that transition a couple of times... just have in mind what type of noise you are going to be making right before the switch, and be ready for it.

It is not important that you play right on the downbeat of the beginning.. feel free to take your time coming in.

The cues in the click track consist of 2 clicks... so you basically get "click click PLAY" It might have been easier for you if I gave you 4 clicks.. but unless there is really a problem with it, I don't really want to go and fix it now.

The BREAK is 2 clicks long, and it is itself cued by two clicks.. SO, right before the first freakout, you get 4 clicks.. and you should be quiet for the second two.

I think that about covers everything.. feel free to ask any questions you might have :)
