Aria - Cum Sancto Spiritu

Featured Replies

Hey there.

This is a short little tenor aria. I used the latin text from gloria.

Im not used to writing vocal music so some hints would be nice :)

as written the setting is : Tenor, Trumpet, Violin, Cello/continuo.

Score:

SimenN - Cum Sancto Spritu Gloria in dei Patris Amen.pdf

as a singer i enjoyed singing to the score very much

I have little to say, but it would take a singer with great breath control

bravo

I agree. It's very pretty. Doesn't break any new ground, but it is stylistically appropriate for this type of piece.

I'm not sure a solo tenor could handle that final "amen," but a tenor section will know to stagger breathe and won't have any problems.

why is the scoring of the period?

we don't have to be stuck in the ways of the pre-baroque and baroque if we don't want to be...the motifs are very early also. the cello line would be more effective if it employed different types of motion, i think.

not much to say of the vocal line because the tenor clef gives me a headache.

GOOD LUCK getting a Tenor to sing in the tenor clef nowadays. Other than that, I loved it! Nothing new, very Neo-Baroque/Classical.

Haha, I can sight read the tenor part :)

Smile! Nice song! :)

I would argue it not to be NEO... As you said, nthing new, so just baroque. I would say the accents on the sillables are wrong. The latin wants the accent to be on SPI-(riitu), and not spi-ri-TU. As is the accent on 'dei' a bit strange...

Al the lines '-' suggest somethings to be one word, but should be separated

'cum-Sanc-tu' should be 'Cum Sanctu'

'spi-ri-tu-in' should be 'Spiritu in'

'glo-ri-a-de-i-pat-ris' should be 'gloria Dei Patris' (Dei and Patris with first capital)

I've been looking to the first measures of the tenor. Think the rest of the score is in need of correction as well.

keep up :)

My definition if Neo-Classical/Baroque/Romantic etc is a piece written NOW in the style of the time period. Classical and Baroque and Romantic are not styles, they are time periods. You can't write a Baroque piece today... You would have to write a New (Present day) Baroque piece. Or Neo-Baroque.

OK, thats your definition. I understand, and partialy agree.

But I always thought that Neo did add something. For example: Prokofiev writing his classical Symphony did use the forms from the classical era, but added some new (Neo) progressions. You hear its like the classical period, but not written in the period.

mhmm. I can totally agree with that.

Thanks :)

I very much so enjoyed this piece. And I love that you put the tenor on a tenor clef.lol

It should work out well with any tenor with great breath support.

very nicely done.
