Two Pieces to Paintings

Featured Replies

These are two pieces that I have just finished/edited recently.

piecetoapainting_ivan - John Oeth - Musician - Composer - Mostly based on "bi chords". On the second half, is there a more "efficient" way to write it (regarding the time signature)? Is the beaming, for lack of a better word, correct?

piecetoapainting_person - John Oeth - Musician - Composer - I just finished this a few minutes ago. This is in B lydian; should I have a B major key signature or keep F sharp? This piece may be a tad...stagnant. Though, I think this contrasts well with the first piece.

Thanks for listening.

Can you show us the paintings?

They should be below the score on the website.

hey. I really liked this: the way you develop your theme.

The way the bichords at ivans painting end up in the fast notes in the end. Very good. I maybe start playing this :)

I liked Ivan's better than the other by Dali. The ne by Dali is more popular, ms 17 and the recap at ms 42 could easily appear in a popsong.

Both had a imperssionistic feel, which I liked.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I tried to have the Dali piece be a bit more...lyrical.

thanks so much

I will try :)

What?

I really like the chord progressions to the Ivan picture. It just works so well. You immediately get the feeling that some bad is about to happen, or has happened. And then this sadness that never ends. The part from bar 28, is really good too. But, at last I have something to contribute with, I think it would have benefited from a clear melody throughout the scales. But all in all, this is really good.

I just need to clear my head before commenting on the other piece :P

by far being my favourite dali painting, i had to listen what did you make of it.

there's just one thing, if i'm right, dali was very into psychoanalysis and this is a painting of his sister, and the round female figure (especially being one of a forbiden fruit!) offering her behind certainly already has some violence in it.

so, the lyricism of your piece i think could contain more perversion, more tension to stay true to the picture. again, i might be wrong, but look what dali did with the same idea later: Virgin Buggered by Her Own Chastity, c.1954 Posters by Salvador Dali at AllPosters.com

dali without his tensions would be empty.

just a remark.

Thanks silas. For the arpeggio bit, I tried to have the arpeggios resemble the structure of the beginning. I mostly added it because it is fun (and easy) to play it fast. =P

I had heard a little bit about that about him as a painter, pliorious. Admittedly, I didn't do much (if any) reading of analyses of the paintings but rather used them as direct inspiration. That painting you linked is great; especially the title. Maybe I should just put a watermark donkey on the sheet music haha.
