Hurricane Abigale

Featured Replies

I enjoyed it very much. The song had a very "bouncy" feel all around it, except for the end of course.

Well, I was impressed with the beginning. It sounded to me actually like what they would play on the weather channel during a hurricane. Yes it got repetitive and if you threw in some changes it would be good, but for background to storm coverage it would work.

Good job!

Yeah it started with something you'd hear on a weather channel. Then it got a bit hard to understand for me. As a general exercise in composition this piece is a great achievement for you, but as an actual piece, I'm not sure yet. There seemed to be something lacking. But good job as always.

Hey man,

This is quite a mixed bag. There are some things I really like and some not so much.

First, I really enjoy the harmony. For some reason to me, throughout the entire thing, dissonant portions included, your harmony really had me engaged. It felt totally appropriate to me at all times. I just thought it was really neat =)

Also, as repetitive as the ostinato is, I think you've done a fair job with it. The beginning is very busy-bee and fitting to your description, though it may be a hair too, "major" I guess :whistling: Perhaps some variations with a more sinister sound, as the people realize just how deadly this thing they are preparing for really is.

Things I didn't like:

I didn't particularly care for the orchestration of the ostinato itself. I'm not even entirely sure that strings playing pizzicato could play that ostinato, but regardless I think the sound would grow quickly tiresome. It is just a bit too bouncy, and I think it'd be more fitting in keyboard percussion and woodwinds rather than pizzicato.

The beginning also might go on a little too long. The ostinato is cool but as others have said, it becomes a little too intense on the listener after a while (which is fitting to the theme, true :D )

Overall though, great job! This is much better than the hurricane piece Ive written haha (granted it was in an hour for a contest with my brother!)

Good job!

my son ^^

The YC Family, ... we are fa mi ly :P

------

Strings players are not electric bass player, I don't know a single violin/viola/cello player that uses 2 fingers in the pizz, so they will prefer to play all those pizzicatos with the bow (and would sound better i think) or their pour fingers will end unusables for the next two weeks :D

but I understand you wrote this more for fun than anyother thing , so it's ok, and I also started writing things like that for orchestra, ... only that I didn't finish anything (until my serious works)

The "meditation" segment is interesting ...

I hope you can get some library like GPO or something to listen by yourself a more clear idea of what are you writing because I feel the midi is giving you a mis-education in how to write for orchestra..... I'm sure you would surprice if you'd listen this with a true orchestra playing those exact notes .... but like I said, .... we all did that kind of funny stuff ... :D

by the way, I think my synth played the midi wronly, I had to "decode" what was what...

Haha. Quite the epic undertaking.

I actually liked it quite a bit. It gets a little repetitive at times but I can feel the stages of the hurricane as it goes through them. Good job there. I wish I had more to say than that but I think everything's already been covered.

Either way....

Pretty good, in addition to what I said earlier, I think some of the sound fonts could be better, but that's just me.
