Weekly Scoring Session

Featured Replies

I thought this would be a neat idea to test our film-scoring chops.

Every Monday I will post a 1 minute clip from a film. By Sunday all participants should compose a score & post it in this thread. To keep everyone on the same level (& to make it less work) please just submit a short score (6 staves or less) and a MIDI file. The amount of orchestration work you do is up to you.

During the week we will vote on who did the best job last week, while tackling the next cue. ;)

Anyone interested?

That sounds fun!

Alright, this week we'll be scoring this 1-minute clip from the recent film CWACOM. It's got a lot going on!

Submit your score by Sunday :)

Mama Mia!

I'd be interested in this! Great idea! I think this clip is a bit to hard for me due mostly to the fact that I can't hear the music for the first part. I'll try it though.

Love the concept, but not so fond of the MIDIness. I realize it evens out the playing field, but it also makes it hard to judge the sync-to-picture, and therefore the viability of the entries in their natural environment. I think it would be easier to judge with audio files locked to the silent video and we could instead focus our imaginations on ignoring any discrepancies in sound library quality between entries. That's just my two cents though, I'll watch this thread and help judge if you like, the idea is a great one!

Great idea! (Though, technically, a scoring session is the actual recording session where the cues are recorded).

I'm with Marius on this one. As their submission, people could match an mp3 or WAV of their cue to the video and then upload it to Youtube or something. Windows Movie Maker or iMovie would make this very easy for most people. If they don't have that, I'm sure there's some free open source software out there that'll allow you to do this.

Unfortunately, I am swamped with work at the moment and will probably have to sit this, as well as the next couple of these, out. I am happy to give feedback and judge if you like.

Tell ya what, a WAV or MP3 will be fine :)

I hadn't thought about syncing to picture, that'd be neat if I can find an easy way to do it - I'll try Movie Maker.

I would love to participate in this
