Hey guys!

Ped: I like the choir myself....nothing like some big tenor/bass shouts to get the blood pumping!

Serge: You made me laugh — didn't realize I had a church :P Ironic if you know me. Anyway, the title is more-or-less obviously a joke at the Indiana Jones movies, so I guess it's overly tacky but ah well. In any case, I'm really glad you liked it and that you took the time to leave your thoughts. I appreciate it!

Yeah, the title really is tacky, honestly  The piece deserves better! :P

Also... don't call Pequad..."Ped"...makes him sound...kinda...y'know... :ermm:

But again, excellent piece, and I'll be checking out more of your stuff soon!

I liked it.

The first half although just screams MARTIN O'DONNELL.

Y'know the guy who did music for Halo... Myth...

Are you influenced by him perhaps?

(This is a good thing btw, he is my favorite video-game composer)

Ron: I'm really happy that you listened and enjoyed it. You're right, I could be more open about my rendering techniques....I guess I just like the idea of forcing people to use their ears and learn by experimenting and trying new things like I did. Especially in cases like this where people are likely to have the same samples I'm using, it really comes down to just listening closely to the sound you want to get and figuring out what's different between it and the sound you are getting. That being said, if people have more precise questions I will answer them about this piece. Might even put up some screenies from the sequencer if people are interested. :)

A great, performance!

Have you used a lot of expression & modulation ccs to animate performance in the sequencer? Also, do u use a lot of automated randomization for the position and velocity of notes or do you move them around manually where you feel it's required? Or do you not use randomization at all?

I am getting EWQLSO Gold soon (so I don't know what works best for it yet;) ) and I think that would be first thing that I would do to a piece but I am still learning so I'd love it if you could share some advice for the ones less experienced ;)

Well Serge, I figured if I had to give him a nickname, "Ped" is better than "Pecker", so....:P

Yachar: I'm glad you enjoyed it! I take the O'Donnell comparison as a compliment, though I find his music to be derivative and simplistic. Had he not blatantly stolen the choir theme for Halo that made him so famous directly from Jack Wall's far superior score for Myst IV, I may have more sympathetic views of his music, but having listened to all of it and compared it to others working in the industry, I find his writing to be wanting. Anyway, there was no intentional influence from him in this piece, but you can draw similarities between it and a whole host of composers' work. :)

NeeHoo: I cleaned up the extra posts, so no worries — the new system's still not quite there, so we have to be patient with it. Anyway, to answer your questions: no. I don't use randomization for velocity or positioning at all. Everything you hear was played in by me live via MIDI keyboard, so all necessary note velocities and expressions were performed on the spot and only very rarely tweaked after the fact if I made a mistake. EWQL libraries don't tend to give you expression control, but any mod patches I used made use of Mod CC data for sure — also played in live. The prospect of having to manually enter and tweak MIDI data for all notes makes me shudder....would take forever to do and still not yield the natural sound of just playing it in. So in terms of advice, by all means get Gold as it's a wonderful library, but if you play piano then do yourself a favour and get a MIDI keyboard controller so you can save yourself hours of unnecessary tedium.

Thanks for the comments!

"Well Serge, I figured if I had to give him a nickname, "Ped" is better than "Pecker", so...."

Point taken
