Ballade 3

Featured Replies

This is one of my largest pieces composed, totaling 14 minutes. Although the style is reminiscent of Chopin, many of the techniques used in this piece are unique and used in my more mature piano writings (which sound considerably different). Thus, I still feel this is one of my best works written, and it took much dedication to finish.

Hmm, is this the problem most people are having? It uploads the piece, but doesn't actually, upload it?

I had that problem a few times. However, what I had to do was log off than log back on. That seemed to fix it.

Also getting file not found. Tried logging off and logging back on but it still isn't working. The other thing is that I found this thread via the forum - not via record hall. Is it possible to have an automatic link from the forum thread to the record hall page? (Perhaps something similar to how discussion threads for wiki pages are created)

Mike,

Took me awhile but I got here. ;)

The opening of this is so very Chopinesque and very beautiful. From there you go to areas that are more modern.

I have listened to it a few times now and will give one un-positive  comment on it (I didn't want to say negative).

IMO the pedaling is overdone in a few places and underdone in others. But that could be in the samples as well.

Nice work

Ron

It is very, VERY nice! I love the flowing style of Chopin myself, it really is a worthy style worth having inspiration from. I always liked how Chopin seemed to be the perfect blend of logic and emotion, which to me seems like the best kind of music. But you didn't steal it, it is still quite original! :P It is a very mature, and hypnotically entrancing piece, that could only come from an extremely experienced composer. The pedaling didn't bother me like it did Ron, but I've always been prone to over-use pedals when playing my piano, so maybe that's a sign you could do it less, haha! Anyway, honestly, there is nothing but praise for this piece!

I loved how the beginning was like an immediate attention getter with simultaneous use of fast notes... then a little later it slowed down a bit and began to progress faster and eventually reach the same speed the beginning had. It did this quite a few times throughout the piece and I loved it! :]

I can hear the influence of classical music but the overall composition has an original touch. In contrast to another person's comment, I do like the use of the pedal. The articulation made the piece become more alive... and just wow. This is amazing~

I have one criticism: too much virtuosity and no story.

consider writing a concerto so you do have to let the orchestra say something as well. Could help to sort out virtuosity.

is there any score?

It sounds quite enjoyable to perform if you have the chops! It has many wonderful moments but, aside from consistent counterpoint and voicings, I have a hard time hearing a connected whole. Perhaps that is just because there are so many notes to absorb and my opinion would change with multiple listenings.

Typically romantic, lyrical in every sense, although I don't feel as if there is one driving force, one bit of material pushing the piece forward, I just hear 14 mins of chopinesque quick notes... still, this deserves a nice bump. :santa:

Wow, man this is some very powerful music you've composed here! I'm giving it a perfect 10, but, with no offense to the composition what so ever, the piano's release seems kind of cutty. I'd love to hear it with a tad more release, but otherwise every other aspect of this is EPIC! Keep it up, man :Phones:

There is no wrongs in this piece! The only thing is that there are so many themes it gets hard to get a sense of structure without knowing it very well, because it such a large piece. But this is maby the best ive heard on this site so far.

Bravo 10/10.
