Everybody Travels Through Time

Featured Replies

When I was making that music it was thought for the credits screen for one of my games. I made up my mind to use it for the title screen maybe.I'd like to know your opinion on this song. You might also give me some tips for the song :).The song might not be really "finished", so don't wonder about the ending.

Everybody Travels Through Time

Hey, I just wrote a whole critique but it got deleted because I wasn't signed in. I'll try again.

I loved the whole space and time travel feel, you did great with that. All your beeps and bloops and strange noises/instruments really came together, so you did great on that.

The one thing I'd say you'd have to improve on though, is the melody. Not your existing melody, it was great, but you need MORE melodies. You repeated the same melody over and over with little or no change (except when the piano came in) just on different instruments. Although the feel was slightly different each time, I got very bored and wanted to here something new after one or two minutes. You could do so much with your cool noises and way of painting a picture through music, but you need to change things up a little.

Thanks for your post and tips! :) I have a little different melody in mind I wanted to get in, but I didn't get to fit it in this music :( But I will try to put in more melodies ^^

The build-up at the beginning is fantastic, and the beat is really cool! This would be great as a title screen for a not-so-serious space game. But like impresario said: if it's going to be as long as it is, you can't drill home the melody on and on like this! Either cut it shorter and loop it, or add an overlapping melody to this! (I hope you do the latter: this has a lot of potential!)

Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed listening to this! :D

I really like the simple sounds that come together. They mix quite well. Though, my only criticism is it gets a tad too redundant. It's very predictable, which is somewhat good, but you have to throw me off my toes every here and then!

Thanks for the comments! :)

That's right SergeOfArniVillage, that melody is thought for a "not-so-serious" 2D space game I'm going to make.

Sweet :D

Hi Simon,

Nice work here. I found that your thematic ideas were predictable but catchy, so that's fine, and so the biggest issue I had was that you didn't do a very good job of keeping them interesting throughout the length of this piece. I don't think you necessarily need to cut it shorter and loop it, but I do think you need to go back and develop it further before you call it done.

That beat, for example, needs to stop at some point. Fade it out, pan it around, change it, but for the love of god do something with it because it turns into a jackhammer by the end. The fact that you changed instruments was great, but changing the tempo, the accompaniment, and so on as well will help keep the material from getting very stale by the end.

Just some things to think about...keep at it! :)

I'm with Marius on this one. The repetition is fine because there are definitely interesting sounds and rhythms catching my interest. I think the variety you have already is really outstanding.

The return of the first idea is really difficult though for me to buy. It takes me backwards, not forwards. But then you transposed it up a degree and it sounds better. I almost would have rather heard the transposed idea than the literal return of the first idea. Then getting to the 4:00 mark as kind of a recap of the whole piece.. that was cool. It would have worked better without the literal return of the main idea but rather a transposed version, maybe mutated a little more by playing with note durations, rhythms, etc.

Overall, great work! Look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks to you, Marius and AntiA. I will care about the tips and I will try to improve my work.

AntiA, maybe you don't have to wait long for more work: I'm already working on another tune for my game, it isn't nearly finished yet, but it sounds very cool in my mind xD.

I look forward to hearing it! :)

The new song is quite "finished", but there isn't enough "alternation". You'll hear quite the same all the time. The song is thought to be used in game, where only the suitable part for the correct feeling is played. I will try to improve my other song, and then you can really look forward to it ;) ^^.

This sounds like Lady Ga Ga(not a bad thing)

nice work there amos, it certainly has musical essence in it and a nice drive going on. about the reptetiveness, you should see how it goes with playing the game and the music, it could be good thing that it doesn't trouble the ear?
