Hey, my name is Michael, and I'm a sophomore in college studying voice performance and music education. I started composing in high school, but mostly focused on choral music. Now that I'm in college and have had more musical experience my palate has expanded and my taste has changed a bit. I still write choral music, but also chamber instrumental music really interests me at the moment.

My aesthetic I would say is similar to Arvo Part, or other "sacred minimalists". I strive to write music that is as genuine as I can make it, and therefore it sometimes takes me forever to write or i never finish! The sound of my pieces in general I try to make very spiritual and heart-felt (if that makes sense :)) That's partly why I joined this site to get help from fellow composers and find new ways to develop my ideas. I'm excited to post pieces or ideas I have and get some feedback!

Hey all! I'm Benjmain T. Carey, I'm a student of music and have been composing since i learned to play piano!

Hey! My name is Deacon and I'm musicaholic. Just kidding. Well, not really. Anywho, I have always enjoyed music, but the notion never came to me until about three years ago to start making music. I started in Men's Chorus in High School the second half of my sophomore year with no musical knowledge, and a good ear. The year after that I had made it into the top two choirs and All-district honor choir, and by my senior year I was section leader of both. About a year ago, I joined a civic choir which I curently sing in still (and I am the youngest member by about a decade or so). But up until July of 08 I had no instrumental background. I have now somewhat taught myself guitar, and last week I recieved a yamaha from a friend, and since then I have started to write, discover, and apply the new knowledge that I am gaining daily. And thanks to insomnia, I have quite a bit of time to practice! I am anxious to get started and learn from all of you!

HI EVERYBODY!!!!

Hello I'm Kody Pisney

I am a tuba player in the Spring High School Band and I've been playing tuba for about 4 years now. I can also play trumpet (not so well anymore though), diatonic accordion, piano, some percussive background and understanding and I play a mean bass guitar on the video game rock band (if that counts).

I absolutely love music and one day hope to be a successful conductor or a band director.

I do not compose often because I'm still new at it but I've made a few things that I hope to post to see if I can improve at all in any way.

I'm glad to have found this place and I hope I meet a whole bunch of people and learn alot of cool things.

Hello, my name is Luke.

I started playing piano a little over one year ago and I decided that I would like to become a composer. . . brilliant idea, eh? Truth is, before classical music, I didn't know such beauty existed; sure, I had heard it before, but until even more recently than beginning the piano, I had never really listened...

I understand the skepticism from others that can come when they find out that I want to compose, after having been truly exposed to classical music for mere months. But that reaction I would deem is quite natural.

I hope to become acquaintances with many of you; perhaps even friends.

Hi Luke, just be wacko; it will bring you many manly lovers.

Hello, everyone!

I'm 16 and really happy because I've finally found a place that people with common intrests can share them. I'm an Estonian, I live near the capital, in Saku. I play the violin and the piano and I've also learned the trumpet. I learn in a music school, named after Georg Ots. That's in Tallinn. My journey of composing began with becoming a fan of Mozart, but in time, I began to like folk music very much (though I finished in classical violin in children's music school, I like to play folk) and my goal as a composer is to become a creator of movie scores. My great idol is John T. Williams :). I don't have much music online, though I do the notation with Sibelius. I also make movies with my friends as there are no silent movies to practice on. Here is a short one, that to our great surprise won many awards :w00t:

P.S. The title says "Blue, blue, mustardy, black" and I'm the guy with the telephone.

Hi everybody. I'm Alex

Hey, My name is Nate. I've been composing since I was 11 years old. I hope to influence and inspire with my music. I'm glad to see others around here doing the same. :)

Hi! My name is Rodrigo, I'm 17 years old and I'm from Argentina. I compose since I'm 13 or 14 years old. I'd like to share my music and get most feedback posible to improve my compositions. I hope you all like my music. I play piano and love to compose...

Thanks a lot!

Rodrigo

Hi, I'm eating ice cream and I love Andy Mobbs.

I enjoy creating un-justified arrogance and dislike compositions.

I play the viola and the guitar sucks.

Severely yours,

Hi. I'm Vhem, 32 years old from Naga City, Philippines. I'm currently working as computer programmer, but my heart is in music. I've been collecting album from different artist on different genre, but new wave and progressive metal sounds are my priorities... I was also a member of a Pop-Thrash metal band covering songs from megadeth, iron maiden and metallica but I've been dreaming to play piece from Dream Theater. Our band performances has been discontinued due to work/job. I was the bassist. Now, I have the equipment and instruments. I have composition of Progressive Metal type, but my problem is how to compose effective lyrics for the music that I made. I am hoping that on this forum / site, I would be educated more on this side and in return contribute to other members...thank you very much.

Hello there! I am an undergrad music major with an emphasis in voice. I have been taking voice lessons for almost 3 years and I am going to be auditioning for some opera spots soon (hopefully!). I love playing the piano. I have been taking piano lessons for about 5 years now, and I am very proud of my accomplishments in that short time. I just bought a guitar, and I want to learn how to play it by ear.

I love talking to new people, so I hope that you will take the time to get to know me better. :-)

The best way!

Hey everyone. I'm a freshman in college, Vocal Music Ed Major. Glad I found this site. Nice to see all of you!

Hey all,

I've been looking around this site for a while and just decided to join up today. About me: I divy up my musical time between playing bass for various pop/country/afro-cuban bands, trumpet, singing with a church choir, and a little acoustic guitar for good measure. When I find/make time to compose, I enjoy doing works for brass and choir, and the occasional pop song, too.

This is a cool site and I already have a list of threads that I want to start:

Tonality vs. Atonality

Sibelius vs. Finale

Classic vs. Romantic

J.S. Bach vs. PDQ Bach

;) See you all around the shop.

FMcG

I don't know what to say to that.

......

welcome to YC?

Please. For the love of all that is holy, DON'T!

Tonality vs. Atonality

Do it!

I'm going to start Atonality vs. Untonality, though.
