Hi

I'm new here and I found your forum looking for composition tutorials on google. I have a solid theoretical background on music, and I've played sax in some groups, but I never composed before. I have made some arrangements over the past years, but now I'm taking up composition as an hobby, so I joined this board.

I'm actually in the middle of my first composition, and I needed some ideas to get my theme and structure into shape, so I'll just browse around and if I need something, I'll ask :)

Hello,

I am new to this and like the site!

Mr-M

My Name is Daniel 53 years old, living in Berlin, Germany. I am managing a Big Band. I do this as a hobby in my free time for the last 15 years, playing reeds for more than 30 years. Our members of the Band are some professionals and others playing music for fun and hobby. So we are a mixed group having fun to play swing. I am playing alto sax and clarinet.

I found this community by acccident and I think this is a good thing to share some experiance.

So I am not a composer but work closely together with our conductor to find some new ways to get new titles and modern music for our band.

Playing the common standarts is a good basement, but we are looking for some kind of streamlined standarts and also new things to improve our experiance and lern new things.

So if you are interested that we should play your arrangements for Big Band pls contact me and we will try to exercise your composition also with an elaborated feedback. Also it would be possible to send you an mp3 file of your pieces, it would be very interresting for your to hear what happened.

If you are interrested pls contact me and we can talk about details, you can be sure that there are no commercial interrests behind, we want to have fun playing just swing.

Regards Daniel

Josed's hello in here!

Hi, my name is Noah. I'm 16 and I've been composing for about two years. Although, to most, I'm new to the music world, I've been listening to a wide range of music and writing and composing whenever I get a chance.

I play trumpet and guitar (but who doesn't).

My name is Michael Stafford. I have been fascinated with music since I was 4, when I started piano lessons. Around the 4th grade, I went on a strange sort of composition explosion, after hearing Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris. I composed several bluesy pieces (without writing them down, of course) that, in retrospect, were cheesy and horrible but not too bad for what it was. I don't know what happened to that composition frenzy, but it died eventually.

It wasn't until recently that I started [trying to] writing music again, this time influenced by Ravel, Poulenc, Bernstein, Debussy, but also Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Yann Tiersen, and other "indie" artists. Two of my friends taught me how to improvise and "jam" as well as exposing me to music I had never heard before.

I want to begin composing legitimately, but I don't know where to start to make a finished work. I want to major in composition at a conservatory, but I suppose I need a portfolio. I would like to compose music that sounds like Ravel's piano concerto, Debussy's string quartet, Poulenc's and Bernstein's clarinet sonatas (as well as the Scherzo from West Side Story), and bits of Sufjan Stevens and Andrew Bird. My main instruments are piano and clarinet, but I also 'dabble' in accordion, ukulele, bass, sitar, and the VERY rare guitar.

Hello Young Composers.com, my name's Michael Bartnett and I have stumbled across this fantastic site before and finally decided to sign up. I'm a freshman composition student at NYU, hoping to work my way toward writing music for games. My interest in writing first developed in the middle of trying to program a computer game in sixth grade with some of my friends--since I was the only musically-oriented one in the group I decided to tackle the soundtrack and I've been hooked ever since.

Yello...I am SebastiYOW!, welll that's my stage name. Real name=David Sebastiao. I am a composer although I really don't like the writing down the music part. I play piano, ukulele, and violin, but I don't intend to use violin in any of my songs. My music doesn't have words, and I don't think anybody else's on this website does either. Anyway I really hope you like my music and please check me out at SebastiYOW! on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads

Sincerely, SebastiYOW!

By the way, probably younger than you would think I am...I'm 13.

Ya Know, I think this website could use some color...it's so...

Hi everyone,

I am Patrick from Kenya. I am a composer for film and tv. I just completed my course last year from ThinkSpace, a terrific experience.

I scored my second film last year as well whose trailer you can catch on

I play the piano and write songs on topical issues. I am looking forward to learning a whole lot from all of you.

Thanks everyone.

Hello. My name is Tyler, and I am a student. I play electric guitar, piano, and sing baritone in my college's choir. I enjoy listening to choral music and composing.

I am from Hong Kong. I am a huge fan of classical music and I love to talk about classical music. I am not exactly musically trained, but I am trying to write some music. So, um, hi!

This is probably the humblest and sincerest introduction I've ever stumbled upon.

You, dear n00b, have earned the magical sardine of humility:

Lol. Truce then?

Why not...

Because I'm a biased, arrogant and irrational genius.

Except for the last part, very true.

Hey everybody, my name is Chad. I was searching Google for something and stumbled across this site. Awesome place! I'm really glad I found it.

I live Pittsburgh, PA. I'm a composer (Jazz and art music of all types). Up until last semester, I taught music at one of our local colleges (the short answer is, after 12 years, I'm thoroughly fed up with academia). I also play electric bass. Primarily Jazz but I'll play anything that's interesting.

I have a B.A. in Music from Slippery Rock U. and a M.M. in Comp/Theory from Duquesne U. Any alums out there, give me a shout!!!

A presto!

-Chad

Welcome Chad. Hope you stick around. I can use some jazzical backup around here ;)

My name is Collin, and I compose mostly piano pieces and remix video game themes. I have been playing piano for about 11 years now, and every year is more fun! Hope I get to meet some other composers here.

Except for the last part, very true.

No it's all true. You have to look deep inside yourself.

Collin: Hello. You've met me.

:w00t::w00t:CONGRATZ:w00t::w00t:

Have I now?

You've met me.

Unfortunately, he said he wants to meet composers, and I'm not sure you've written any real music. :P

*runs away*
